Crab

Thank you so much e eryone who has contributed to this thread. I did not have it today and will not be having it tomorrow either as I am out for lunch, probably open it during the weekend and let you know what it is like.
As Nanny100 says I might be disappointed as it is probably nothing the fresh crab I usually eat and love. We will see.

I definitely would if I had one, my neighbour has one who will ha ve it if I don't want to eat it over the weekend. 🤣

Tinned crab is nowhere near as nice as fresh crab. I bought fresh white meat crab last week from Brixham via my fish monger. It was delicious - as sweet as a nut. I had it in a malted bread salad sandwich with skinny chips. Then I had the rest in a grapefruit, avocado and watercress salad served with Dauphinois potatoes.

Personally I wouldn’t eat the tinned crab unless I disguised it with linguine and ginger but I taste buds apart I think it is perfectly safe to eat. BBE just means best before so it will not harm you. If it said use by then seriously consider chucking it.

I paid £20 for a tub of Brixham white crab meat which is quite expensive although we did get 4 delicious meals out of it. That was from Clifton Fisheries in Bristol. You can, however, order online and have it sent to you from Beer fisheries in Devon run by the Newton family. They also have a good range of other sea food to order at the same time. In East Anglia Cromer crab is well known and I had some delicious Yorkshire crab from a stall at my local farmers market. No need to eat tinned crab meat in date or not.

Indeed you can I know it well I live not far from there. Less than 30 minutes in the car.

I would not risk it.

If it is a BBE date, it just means that it will probably taste better by the end of 2025 but would hardly have changed much less than a 12th of year after. A Use By Date means you are really better off eating it by that date although I don't believe it goes off on the stroke of midnight so use taste and smell to make that decision. As a society we throw away a lot of food that is still ok to eat and it is such a waste. I am currently eating Quark dated 17th December and it is fine. I am living to tell the tale. Think how many tubs would have been thrown away the day after the date ended when they would have been fine.
