I live in a wine growing area, lots of vineyards nearby and most also have restaurants and cafes. Are you around Marlborough nanna8? My cousin has shares in several vineyards there, and is good friends with Alan Scott. We liked the Sauvignon from the Seresin Estate.
Once you take the £3.10 in tax away from the Tesco Zesty White £3.49 shelf price, there is only 39p left to cover everything else.
The glass bottle, the screwcap, the label, the shipping from Spain, and Tesco’s profit margin, the actual value of the wine inside the bottle is effectively pennies - less than 5p?
I still like it NotSpaghetti, used to drink Muscadet, too dry for me now and years ago Chateauneuf du Pape, my taste has changed over the years. But I’ll happily try a Chenin Blanc, some Sauvignon’s.
To be honest I rarely drink at all. I've never got on with any red, just one sniff and I get a blinding headache. AS to any favourites I might have had I'm a bit of a Phillistine, if I try it and like it that's fine, if I try and it and don't like it I wouldn't have bought it again. I have no palate for wine and as for notes of this that and the other I could never notice any of them. (Hangs head in Shame)
I wasn't being sniffy Jaxjacky sorry if it sounded like that. I was thinking about someone upthread with a cheap wine-box actually and since the different duty on wines of different strengths has come in it's really made me think .
I hope we all drink what we like. I had an outrageously expensive Californian red once (as a "treat" from someone that I wouldn't like to have to drink again!

It could be a loss-leader?
Perhaps the producer gets a reasonable price but Tesco sells it at that price to draw customers in. I hope that's the reason for the low price.
I would say I have an unsophisticated palate! I find white gives me a headache, and I like softer reds like a pinot noir or grenache. But my go-to now is a dry rose.
Lately I've been drinking L'Ostal Rose from Pays D'Oc, but I like to try wines from BC as well.
DH favours a sharp Cabernet Savignon, which I find a bit 'too much'.
Wine here is more expensive, possibly because of the taxes. A relatively cheap bottle would be more like 10 GBP here.
When Sainsbury’s have their 25% off six bottles I like to try different wines which would normally cost more per bottle than I usually pay It was this that led me to my first try of Portuguese wine which I really enjoyed. I have tried others from that country since, including one from Aldi and have been happy with them.
I’m a white wine girl. Simply because red gives me a headache and I don’t suffer from headaches normally. Was happy with Sauvignon blanc and Chardonnay but then a friend introduced me to Viognier and Pic Paul. I’m happy to enjoy one glass of red wine with spaghetti bolognese or a fillet steak.
It’s interesting, I sorted out our wine store recently, we drink mainly European wines out of 50 plus bottles there were only 3 New World wines and one English Nytimber. The majority were French, followed by Spain, Italy and Portugal. I don’t have any at the moment but there is a Lebanese wine we love.
The only wine I like is Stones Ginger Wine. I’d die of thirst before drinking any red or white wine, though I did manage half a glass of a very diluted spritzer my DD made at her last party, with about 1/4 of Whispering Angel (her preferred rosé) topp d up with soda water.
She and her father are very keen on red wine and her favourite is Catena Malbec, which is in Waitrose.
I have only had Lebanese wine once. I tried two at a restaurant once a Chateau Musar and a Hochar.
Unfortunately I can't remember which I liked! It was a bit odd at first - surprising and a bit wild. I'd be interested to know what your Lebanese love is Sago
What a long way we have come from the 50s/60s when Liebfraumilch and Mateus Rose was considered ok. I have struggled to remember a comparative red of the time but can remember Bulls Blood , was it from Eastern Europe? I do recall when two friends and my H and I were invited to dinner with friends of theirs and we two “girls” were sent to buy wine to take with us and were instructed not to buy anything from Spain as it was undrinkable.
