I have struggled to remember a comparative red of the time but can remember Bulls Blood , was it from Eastern Europe?

Yes. I remember being rather ill after drinking that at a party when I was a young student!

I like Côtes de Gascogne. The cheaper Tesco one reminds me of the rustic gooseberry wine we used to make with fruit from my allotment.
But my taste buds seem to vary lot - what tastes great to me one day can seem mediocre the next, and vice versa.

I have only had Lebanese wine once.
I tried two at a restaurant once a Chateau Musar and a Hochar.

Unfortunately I can't remember which I liked! It was a bit odd at first - surprising and a bit wild.

Chateau Musar is the Lebanese wine we buy.

We received a bottle as a gift once, it was stunning, we had to decant it before drinking, I can’t remember the name it was Bekaa Valley wine and retailed at about £60, it would be very expensive in a restaurant!

I’d forgotten this wine which I loved. I wonder how much the trouble in Lebanon has impacted production? I googled where you could get it now - Majestic has the 2018 vintage for £44

I seem to hate the wines everyone else likes. I dislike Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot. I like Gavi Di Gavi, Pouilly fuse, Sancerre, Fleurie, Dolcetta Di Alba ( spelt wrong) and St Emilion.

Chilean Carmenere is our favourite and runner up is Pinot Noir. I also like "proper Champagne" or other dry sparkling wine in the Summer. Sometimes when eating out we have a sweet red dessert wine from South Africa and last week we tried an Ice wine from Slovakia which was very good. Probably the best value wine we've had was from the supermarket while on holiday in Madeira.

There are vineyards around here too but British wine is often so more expensive, although very good.

British sparkling wine is very good but it is expensive. Probably because of the smaller amounts being produced.

Sancerre is a favourite of mine, I am more of a red drinker but a cold crisp Sancerre makes me think of summer.

My Dad did exactly that 😄 and gave it a green frilly lampshade. Mum loved it, I wonder where it went 🤔

We only drink at weekends unless we’re entertaining and yes we have or daughter, SIL and children staying so the weekend has stretched out!

One of my favourite reds at the moment is this fabulous Portuguese Douro.

At £6.99 it’s a steal.

We tend to only drink at the weekends, but when we have guests or family staying that goes out of the window!

In summer we possibly drink more as sitting in the sun with a glass of delicious wine is good for the soul.

I think 1 bottle per night is well over the 14 units, Franski.

I have a couple of glasses while i'm cooking - which is also probably over the recommended units.

Can’t say I feel any different.

Languedoc, mostly because I used to live there and once picked the grapes for it.

Followed by Merlot.

I also bought a bottle of Animus Douro at the weekend. It’s very nice but seems to lack the body of a decent Chilean Malbec. Glad I tried it though - I tend to get stuck in a rut with wines. My usual go to for casual drinking when they are on offer is Lindeman’s Vineyard Winemakers Release and McGuigan Malbec.

Ah you’re obviously used to much heavier reds, the Spanish and Portuguese are a lot lighter.

Interesting! I don't have a glass every night and thought of giving up for Lent but it was just a passing thought.
