Hello! ?

By my reckoning, this thread will see us through until we are near to C********!

SachaMac’s question was ‘if you could travel back to any time or place for one day, where / when would it be’?

I’m still mulling it over…

biglouis Tue 30-Aug-22 14:44:24

I dont do cooking because my nephew brings me 5 meals each week and they go into the freezer. He loves cooking (so he batch cooks) while I have no interest in it.

Have you ever been on a protest march of any kind?

Never been on one but have taken industrial action and "worked to rule" in my much younger days.

SachaMac Tue 30-Aug-22 15:06:37

No not a protest match but I have taken part in a strike.

Do you ever make your own greeting cards or ever buy individual handmade ones from craft fares. It’s on my list of hobbies to attempt.

AGAA4 Tue 30-Aug-22 15:25:16

No I haven't tried to make cards yet. I have been sent some lovely ones and it feels much more personal than shop bought ones.

Do you go out looking for blackberries this time of year?

biglouis Tue 30-Aug-22 23:35:32

I used to regularly go blackberrying when I was younger. Made blackberry crumble, pie and wine. I dont now because of mobility issues.

Are you intending to cut down significantly at christmas because of cost of living rises?

I have nothing to cut down on that is specific to christmas because I have never celebrated it since the 1970s!

henetha Wed 31-Aug-22 10:42:24

I will have to cut down a bit I think. The family will probably talk about it and we'll agree to give each other less. (I hope!).

Are you pleased when children go back to school next week?
Or do you miss them?

SachaMac Wed 31-Aug-22 11:15:47

It’s mixed feelings for me, I quite like getting back into my normal routine come September but as I am quite recently widowed I have really enjoyed the company of my GC this summer, the house will be very quiet again. It does mean I will now be able to tackle the endless jobs that have piled up whilst I have been entertaining them, my house is a tip!!

Are you planning on taking an Autumn break once the children are all back at school and it’s quieter.

hollysteers Wed 31-Aug-22 11:32:22

I was invited to holiday in Spain with good friend in a couple of weeks, but my health is indifferent and I have commitments here. I do love breaks though!

Do you have a traditional watch on your wrist or an Apple/internet type my daughter has?

Mollygo Wed 31-Aug-22 13:03:46

Apple Watch. It tells me how far I’ve walked, cycled or swum, who’s ringing me and best of all, what time it is.

Does your postie have a set time of day to call? I was expecting a small packet-so today he arrived early whilst I was walking the dog! Grr

MrsKen33 Wed 31-Aug-22 14:37:35

No post today as they are on strike. But he is extremely friendly and always brings stuff to the house. Usually comes just after lunch time.

Do you use Royal Mail for preference or another carrier.?

Mollygo Wed 31-Aug-22 15:00:30

I guess our postman hadn’t heard about the strike.
If I have the choice for parcels I’ve ordered, I use DPD. Royal Mail has a nasty habit of not knocking then making me wait 24 hours to collect the parcel I waited in for.

Same question again -What delivery would others choose?

AGAA4 Thu 01-Sept-22 10:22:32

I've had some poor experiences with most of the delivery services but I would probably use DPD as the best of a not great bunch.

Are you preparing for what may be a hard winter?

henetha Thu 01-Sept-22 10:26:54

Yes I am. Sorting out hot water bottles, throws, etc. Trying hard to think of energy saving tips, doing more batch cooking of stews and freezing them.

If you could stay at any hotel in the world, money no object, where would it be? Do you have a favourite hotel?

hollysteers Thu 01-Sept-22 10:39:54

The Ritz, Paris.
Favourite hotel, Claridges.

What was the last thing you ate?

MrsKen33 Thu 01-Sept-22 11:42:23

A Rich tea biscuit, about 10 minutes ago.

What is your favourite biscuit?

biglouis Thu 01-Sept-22 12:48:48

Ginger! And I confess I like to dunk them.

Whats your favorite ice cream flavour?

Mine is salted caramel

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 01-Sept-22 14:01:02

I love vanilla and salted caramel ice cream too.

Are you adventurous? Have you ever had a moment of madness? If so please share with us.

hollysteers Thu 01-Sept-22 21:20:20

Every time I go up in a plane, it seems like a moment of madness.

Did you have a favourite teacher at school?

ginny Thu 01-Sept-22 23:11:08

Yes, Junior school it was Mr Cortell.

Senior school was an English teacher called Mr Burns.

I was called for Jury duty many years ago. I was due to start a new one job on the day the duty started. They let me off.
Have you done Jury duty ?

biglouis Thu 01-Sept-22 23:53:02

No - not while I was employed when of course I would have got full pay from the uni. Later it would have been inconvenient as I am self employed. I told them I was disabled/no transport and got excused. I would not have minded doing it when I was younger but I dont think you get called after age 70.

Have you ever had problems with noisy neighbours?

I once had one who played boom boom music 24/7.

MrsKen33 Fri 02-Sept-22 06:36:56

Yes. They had three sons who played very loud music whenever their parents went out. They also had five cars between them that caused lots of problems re parking for the whole street.
For the first time in a long while I slept straight through for eight hours last night.
Do you have trouble sleeping?

ginny Fri 02-Sept-22 11:10:58

I’d love to sleep for 8 hours straight. I usually ave to get up tree times a night and find it difficult to get back to sleep.

I’ve just boiled some eggs to have with our salad lunch.
What is your favourite sales ingredient ?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Fri 02-Sept-22 12:04:53

My favourite salad ingredient would be the eggs, I'd eat them till the cows came home if I could.

What's your favourite salad dressing?

DanniRae Fri 02-Sept-22 17:40:52

Salad cream for me!

What do you have in your salad?
I have lettuce, beetroot, radish, sometimes cucumber and diced red pepper and my good old salad cream smile

hollysteers Fri 02-Sept-22 20:59:59

Spinach, grated carrot, beetroot, tomatoes, olives, balsamic vinegar, olive oil and lemon juice.

Which film could you watch over and over again?

Mollygo Fri 02-Sept-22 22:12:27

Groundhog Day? Or Waterloo, or Zulu or Goodnight Mr Tom or Legally Blonde -so many to choose from.

Same question-what would anyone else re watch?
