Hello! ?

By my reckoning, this thread will see us through until we are near to C********!

SachaMac’s question was ‘if you could travel back to any time or place for one day, where / when would it be’?

I’m still mulling it over…

hollysteers Wed 21-Sept-22 09:17:53

I’m about to take my car into the garage as the electric windows aren’t working. There are pluses and minuses, but I would hold on to one’s car as long as one can.

What smell do you like that’s not perfume? (Cloves)

HowVeryDareYou Wed 21-Sept-22 09:25:08

I love the smell of freshly-cut grass. Also, baby powder.

Where has been your favourite holiday destination? (mine is Porec in Croatia)

SachaMac Wed 21-Sept-22 09:28:10

My service & mot are due next week, I do dread it!! I use my car quite a lot, mainly short journeys, I wouldn't want to be without it at the moment. I don't get my bus pass for a few years but when I do I intend to take full advantage. I use the trains quite regularly and prefer that to driving long distances.

I think if you’re in a town with good transport links you could probably manage without a car but if you’re out in the countryside it would be much more difficult. There must come a time when you know it’s time to hang up your car keys although many people are driving well into their 80’s & beyond.

Do you regularly use public transport even if you have a car?

ginny Thu 22-Sept-22 11:45:14

No. We have bus passes but have only used them when on holiday.

I’m a messy worker. Do you tidy as you go or clear up the mess at the end ?

crazyH Thu 22-Sept-22 15:04:50

Snap - mess, mess, mess. I wish I could be like my neighbour B - her house is like a show house.

I’ve been told I have nice hands. What is your best feature?

MrsKen33 Thu 22-Sept-22 18:22:09

None really, though perhaps long legs?

Favourite pudding?

hollysteers Thu 22-Sept-22 18:58:30

Meringue with Morello cherries and cream.

Do you prefer a shower curtain or a glass screen?
(I have glass screens and hate them, more cleaning. I have thrown a lightweight plastic tablecloth over one to catch the drips?)

Mollygo Thu 22-Sept-22 22:10:39

Glass screens every time, but one DD Who lives in a hard water area has curtains because they can be washed and they’re cheap and easy to replace.

How can I train my dog to close the door when she goes out? When we put the heating on I’m going to regret giving her the run of downstairs.

biglouis Thu 22-Sept-22 23:46:57

This was something which used to annoy us when I was a kid at home and the dog wanted to go out on a cold night. We never did manage to train him to close the door! So I dont know the answer.

Have you ever been offered a job that you turned down?

I have several times because I felt the interview was misleading or I got bad vibes. Looking back I dodged a couple of bullets.

SachaMac Fri 23-Sept-22 11:58:05

Yes I turned down a couple of jobs years ago, no regrets either. You can pick up vibes from the way the interview panel conduct themselves.

Is there a job you wish you had done or trained to do?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Fri 23-Sept-22 12:28:53

I would have liked to have become a florist.

Same question again please.

HowVeryDareYou Fri 23-Sept-22 12:32:18

I wanted to be a newspaper reporter. I wish I'd had a job working with animals

same question please

DanniRae Fri 23-Sept-22 14:40:51

If I have my time again I would love to work in an auction house - one that sells antiques.

Same question please

AGAA4 Fri 23-Sept-22 16:22:20

I always wanted to be a nurse but my parents didn't think it was a good idea so put me off.

Can you feel the change to cooler mornings now autumn is here? It was cold here in the hills early today.

MrsKen33 Fri 23-Sept-22 16:26:41

Yes, cold and damp this morning but double duvet on now. Autumn is here

Are you going to have a break anywhere before Christmas?

hollysteers Fri 23-Sept-22 16:35:33

Haven’t planned anything, but I often take coach day trips. Love them, no packing hassle and I feel as if I have been away for longer.
I will also stay with my sister just outside London for a few days.

What colour is your front door? (White)

Beautful Fri 23-Sept-22 16:35:53

Yes going on a Turkey & Tinsel break ... Happy Christmas !

I would like to go to Lapland to see Father Christmas & visit the lovely Christmas shops , not forgetting the snow ! Or Austria or Switzerland & have a ride on a horse driven sleigh !

Where would you like to go for Christmas & reason ?

MrsKen33 Fri 23-Sept-22 20:07:06

Our front door is heavy teak.
I would like to go on a cruise to the Lafoten islands for Christmas.

When I was a child I always had a new dress for Christmas and until lately kept that up. Not bothered since Covid. Have you stopped doing something because of Covid or lockdown ?

biglouis Sat 24-Sept-22 13:11:19

Covid hasnt really changed my habits. The things I no longer go to/do are more because of decreased mobility.

Have you ever bid at an (in person) auction sale rather than jsut Ebay?

I used to love going to auctions and found them quite exciting. Now I bid mosly online which can be just as exciting but Im in the comfort of my own home. The American ones can be very late at night.

henetha Sat 24-Sept-22 14:05:36

Yes, there was an auction house not far from here and I bought half my furniture there when I moved in. But it closed down a few years ago and I miss it.

Do you buy things from charity shops? I used to but then stopped, but now, due to rising prices of everything, I've started browsing them again. I bought a really good pair of M&S trousers this week for £4.

millymouge Sat 24-Sept-22 14:15:48

Unfortunately I have a wired phobia, I can’t wear things that others have worn. For some reason I feel as is part of them is still in the item. Have missed a lot of things because of that, jewellery that has been left me etc.

What books of a particular author would you read time and time again and still find something new at each reading.

millymouge Sat 24-Sept-22 14:16:25

Sorry that should be ‘weird’

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sat 24-Sept-22 14:40:10

I'm not sure if I'd find something new at each reading but my favourite authors are Stephen King, Charles Dickens and George Orwell.

Do you have a favourite book which you'd like to see dramatised, or would that spoil it?

biglouis Sun 25-Sept-22 01:03:43

My favorite book is Frank Herbert;s "Dune" which has been filmed several times with varying levels of success.

If you won the Euro lottery what would be the very first thing you would do/buy with the money?

I would get some health problems sorted out.

HowVeryDareYou Sun 25-Sept-22 08:01:57

I'd give some to my eldest son to buy a house.

What was your favourite subject at school? (I liked typing and English)
