Do you ever compliment strangers on their appearance?

Often, I’m completely shameless and don’t care how they react. It’s lovely to see someone looking nice or unusual.

Do you worry about your health or even have hypochondriacal tendencies?

I worry about my health as I get older and wonder how long I will be able to manage independently. My mother was a hypochondriac.

Have you ever had a fall?

Managed to avoid one so far but its always a risk living alone.

Yes. Before my hip op I was always falling over and really hurting myself.
A few years ago my leg collapsed and I fell from the top of the stairs all the way down.
I knocked my front teeth out and had massive facial trauma.
The lower part of my face was totally black with bruising.
I was lucky that I didn’t break my neck. It was awful.
The emergency dentist thought that I’d been in a car smash

Have you ever had an awful accident?

I’ve just worked out that I was only 42 when I fell down the stairs. That’s how long I had been suffering with my leg

When I'd had a series of falls, one of them ending in a stitched-up eyebrow, my GP sent me to the Falls Clinic at the local hospital. I went through lots of tests which showed that there was nothing physically wrong with me to cause falls. I came to the conclusion that my own carelessness was to blame and since then have obeyed my sons' instruction to "watch where you'r putting your feet, Mum". So far, so steady!

I fell over a couple of months ago. I was sitting on the edge of my bed and as I stood up I caught my toe in the bottom of the leg of my trousers and ended up on the floor. Luckily no harm done other than a bruise on my thigh.

I’m going to a Spa day tomorrow. Is this something you enjoy or have you never been ?

I’ve only been twice, because they were gifts. Didn’t really enjoy it. I prefer M, who does home visits. She does massages, facials, manicures and pedicures, eyebrows - you name it, she does it. It’s cheaper and informal, in the comfort of my own home.

Ive never been to a spa but they used to have aldies sauna day at the local baths and you could relax afterwards and get a massage.

Have you ever got a really hideous gift which you felt you could not give away or throw out?

My gran bought me a really horrible vase which I kept for her sake (at the back of a cupboard). I later found out it was worth quite a lot of money and sold it in Christies auction but after she had passed.

1997. 31st May. My wonderful mom Kathryn, aged 50.
I’m the same age as her now.

1997 really was my annus horribilis.
The person who I thought was the love of my life and who I absolutely adored, finished with me four months later.

This also coincided with me starting an ill considered and ill fated Secondary Art PGCE.
I very nearly had a total breakdown.

But! I met DH exactly a year after mom’s death and he literally saved me life. Hurray!!
I’m convinced that she sent him to look after me.

Did you ever make kites when you were a child?
We did and I loved it. Sooo exciting trying the first flight ?

Never made kites.

Do you enjoy a full breakfast at leisure or just a snack and coffee?

I am not a full breakfast person. I always have milky coffee, toast and yogert. However I do get annoyed if I get disturbed over breakfast.

I usually have cereal based breakfast, muesli with Greek yoghurt and fruit, porridge or overnight grape nuts. I have a full cooked breakfast when on holiday or as a brunch occcasionally.

Did you have a teacher that stands out in your memory for either good or bad reasons?

The best teacher I ever knew was Peter Inskeep. He was the head of English, a very smartly-dressed man (wore bowties), strict but fair.

Your favourite subject at school?

English, the only subject in which I excelled.

Did you on to higher education? College or university?

I went to art school and did an NDD then years later a BA with the OU.

Other than this, what will you be doing next. Me? Finishing the button band on a cardie I ‘m knitting.
