Hello! ?

By my reckoning, this thread will see us through until we are near to C********!

SachaMac’s question was ‘if you could travel back to any time or place for one day, where / when would it be’?

I’m still mulling it over…

FannyCornforth Fri 04-Nov-22 05:09:11

PS I hope that you are back to sleep now

MrsKen33 Fri 04-Nov-22 06:19:54

Just woken up Fanny a miracle for me. Bore Da Cariad

To get back to sleep? Kindle, iPad, and day dream I just drift off then but usually wake at 6 .
Lovely outing today. Hygienist at the dentist. Roll on tomorrow.

What do you dislike the most, doctor, dentist or optician?

biglouis Fri 04-Nov-22 07:33:34

Dentist by a long mile.

How many hours do you sleep on average?

Four or five is average for me.

henetha Fri 04-Nov-22 10:00:36

7 or 8 most nights. I'm lucky.

Are you planning a firework party tomorrow?

AGAA4 Fri 04-Nov-22 15:32:05

No. My neighbours dog goes crazy on bonfire night so I hope the fireworks don't go on too long.

Do you like fireworks?

MrsKen33 Fri 04-Nov-22 16:17:37

Not especially

Did you ever do’Penny for the guy ‘ when you were a child ?

hollysteers Fri 04-Nov-22 17:34:42

Not myself, but there were plenty around.

Which famous historical figure would you like to have had a love affair with?

biglouis Fri 04-Nov-22 23:31:17

Prince Albert, a highly intelligent and gifted man who was not appreciated in his lifetime.

Did you do trick a treat as a kid?

In my birthplace (Liverpool) it was sort of mixed in with Penny for the Guy and we used the money we collected for a fireworks display.

FannyCornforth Sat 05-Nov-22 05:41:53

No. I never gave it any thought, and there is absolutely no way i
on earth that my mother would have allowed me to! She would have gone bananas!
(‘Not safe’, plus ‘bothering the neighbours’, and ‘walking the streets’, with a soupçon of ‘common’ smile)

MrsKen33 Sat 05-Nov-22 06:20:28

Morning Fanny. A question?

FannyCornforth Sat 05-Nov-22 06:31:29

Morning Ken! Sorry, I got carried away.
Name something common (without causing mass offence!wink)

FannyCornforth Sat 05-Nov-22 06:48:44

Scrap that - something that your mother thought was common?

biglouis Sat 05-Nov-22 06:54:38

Tattoos - she thought they were horrible.

Did you ever get your ears pierced?

I did in my 20s when I began to buy antique jewellery. My mother thought that was common too despite the fact that the queen had pierced ears.

MrsKen33 Sat 05-Nov-22 07:21:22

Yes, but secretly as my mother thought it was common. Sadly I was 25 and married .

Anyone else do anything their mother was not to know ?

FannyCornforth Sat 05-Nov-22 07:31:03

Loads of things!
My mom and I were really, really close so I had a lot of rebelling to do to establish myself as an individual.
I had a tattoo on a school trip to Paris when I was 14.
It was not a popular decision! It is hidden away on my hip, so I wasn’t entirely stupid.
The school made me tell her, they arranged for the school counsellor to be there when I told her.
I think that she was secretly relieved, I think she might have thought that I was going to announce that I was pregnant

Same question please

biglouis Sat 05-Nov-22 11:25:32

I got a big tax rebate (1960s) and spent it all on a new wardrobe. I didnt tell my mother as I knew she would want some "towards my keep". I hid the new clothes in my locker at work and filtered them into my wardrobe gradually. I told her I bought them cheap in a dress agency.

Same question.

AGAA4 Sat 05-Nov-22 11:56:31

I went on holiday with my friend's family and we dyed our hair blonde. My mum was angry when I got home and even angrier when my dad said it suited me.

Good question. Same again please.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sat 05-Nov-22 11:56:48

I contemplated suicide after some bad experiences when I was young and daft which I would never tell my mother about as I knew she would worry - though she probably worried anyway.

To lighten the atmosphere - what was the best fashion item you bought when you were young which you look back on with pleasure?

Mollygo Sat 05-Nov-22 13:16:09

A maxi coat! I thought I looked amazing in that and my boots. It was so warm!

Same question please.

DanniRae Sat 05-Nov-22 17:07:01

I bought a silver, glittery tunic type top which I wore with black, wide legged, crepe trousers! I felt very glamorous smile

What was your favourite perfume when you were young? Mine was "Blue Grass."

MrsKen33 Sat 05-Nov-22 19:19:00

Aqua Manda. I loved the bottle too

Same question please as interesting

biglouis Sat 05-Nov-22 22:16:05

I loved Ysatis (Givenchy) - Ive always liked the heavy exotic ones.

Did you ever wear very full skirts with hooped or paper nylon underskirts? I loved them.

MrsKen33 Sun 06-Nov-22 03:54:31

Oh yes.Every Sunday morning, dipped them in sugar water to stiffen them. Hoops too, though I once went to a dance and the hoop unwound itself and curled around my feet. So very embarrassing when you are fifteen.

Nooner else had an’accident’ with their clothes?

biglouis Sun 06-Nov-22 05:28:20

I was once wearing a full skirt in an airport abroad and came out of the loo with part of it tucked down my knickers. A woman kindly warned me before I got very far.

Interesting question.

Any more costume malfunctions?

Mollygo Sun 06-Nov-22 09:41:58

Only the problem of wearing something inside out. My Nan said it was bad luck to change it if it was wrong way out. For years I was stuck with wearing something that way all day. Now I risk the misfortune.

Were fireworks noises near you shorter last night because of the rain? Here they had finished by 9pm.
