Hello! ?

By my reckoning, this thread will see us through until we are near to C********!

SachaMac’s question was ‘if you could travel back to any time or place for one day, where / when would it be’?

I’m still mulling it over…

DanniRae Sun 06-Nov-22 09:46:51

I once walked from BHS toilets right across the cafe with toilet paper trailing from my knickers blush

Can anyone beat that for an embarassing incident?

Mollygo Sun 06-Nov-22 09:48:31

🤣🤣🤣🤣 what did you do DannieRae?
(That’s not a follow on question)

henetha Sun 06-Nov-22 10:40:48

Many years ago I fell down an entire flight of stairs in what was then called the National Liberal Club near Trafalgar Square, London. Luckily it was well carpeted.

Same question as it's good.....

hollysteers Sun 06-Nov-22 16:13:51

In Ye Olden Days, my suspender belt snapped as I stood holding the rail waiting to get off the bus. My belt and stockings fell down below my skirt.

Do you find liquid washing stuff not as good at getting clothes clean as powder!

biglouis Sun 06-Nov-22 21:00:26

Ive never used the liquid stuff - only used powder.

Do you wipe the bath/shower screen after use or just let the water drain into the tray/bath?

SachaMac Sun 06-Nov-22 21:33:48

It all depends on how much time I’ve got, I have brought a shower screen spray but I’m not convinced it’s much good.

Do you have/use a hot water bottle?
(Ive just put mine in the bed, it’s so cold & damp here tonight)

crazyH Sun 06-Nov-22 21:53:31

I used to, but I keep forgetting- my CH is on full blast, shame on me. I have to start being economical, and use a hot water bottle. Thanks for reminding me Sachamac

My Will leaves my estate to my 3 children. I have not left any money for the grand children. I will leave a couple of pieces of jewellery for each for them. What about you ? Have you left any money for your grandchildren ?

crazyH Sun 06-Nov-22 21:58:50

P.S. If it’s too personal, just answer by telling me, it’s none of my business 😂 I won’t mind

FannyCornforth Mon 07-Nov-22 02:41:43

I haven’t made a will.
I have hardly any family, no descendants, so I honestly don’t know who I’m going to leave it to. The plan is to spend whatever I have, I suppose. When I’m ‘on my own’ I’m going to live in one of those retirement places, somewhere very beautiful

What are you reading at the moment?
I’ve got Craig Brown’s new book ‘Haywire’. He’s my absolute favourite writer

MrsKen33 Mon 07-Nov-22 04:32:54

Just read ‘Intimacies’ by Katie Katamura for the book club. Supposedly Obama’s favourite. …….well glad that’s over, and never to be revisited.

Same question please…

Bora da Fanny and anyone else awake

FannyCornforth Mon 07-Nov-22 04:57:07

Hi Ken! 😃

Mollygo Mon 07-Nov-22 06:32:46

I’m rereading the Roselynde Chronicles-historical fiction around the time of King John.

06.31 Is it light yet where you are? The sky is beginning to lighten here.

SachaMac Mon 07-Nov-22 07:55:07

Light here now just but it’s pretty dull and damp.

How do you start your day? I go down to let the dog out & make a cup of tea, then. bring my tea back up & drink it in bed before having my shower and getting dressed.

biglouis Mon 07-Nov-22 08:49:48

I get my shower first then come down to have a relaxing breakfast watching the news. Check the overnight cctv. Then go into my office and plan my day.

Did/do you ever keep a journal type diary?

Ive kept one all my life. It helps me to put the day into perspective.

AGAA4 Mon 07-Nov-22 11:46:24

Yes I always have one. It is useful to look back on events.

Have you ever had a pest problem? I have wasps coming into my kitchen in November!

ginny Mon 07-Nov-22 11:56:51

Only field mice it the garage. They built a nest in DHs golf bag .

Today I am making soup for the freezer. Pea & mint, tomato and roasted red pepper.
Do you make soups and what is your favourite?

henetha Mon 07-Nov-22 12:24:48

I do, and my favourites are broccoli and stilton, or carrot and coriander. I tried tomato recently as I had a glut of them and it was surprisingly nice with just a very simple recipe. Just tomatoes and water basically with whatever added spices or herbs you like.

Do you ever bulk out meat, mince for instance, by adding soya mince, or chickpeas or lentils?
Any good results?

Mollygo Mon 07-Nov-22 12:28:15

No, I just add more veg if I have to stretch the meat. I avoid soya stuff as it upsets DH. I like chickpeas, especially with spiced cauliflower but I count that as a veg.

Same question, for those who might have some good recipes for your question.

MrsKen33 Mon 07-Nov-22 12:29:08

I often buy Quorn and add mushrooms, chopped celery and leeks.

Do you cook casseroles in a slow cooker, the oven, or something else.?

Mr R pointed it out when I returned to the table so I quickly removed it. BTW it was paper from the roll that got hooked in my knickers as I pulled them up not the other alternative!! shock

FannyCornforth Mon 07-Nov-22 12:57:28

DanniRae you’ve inspired me to start a thread about embarrassing incidents (I didn’t name you, don’t worry!)

lovebeigecardigans1955 Mon 07-Nov-22 13:03:49

It's ages since I last made a casserole as I've largely lost interest in cooking and feel it's not worth it for one person.

Do you bake often? I did so last week, with an apple and sultana cake.

SachaMac Tue 08-Nov-22 07:59:46

Not as much now I’m on my own. I occasionally make cup cakes or scones. We have a local bakery that do an amazing caramel donut, I treat myself & the GC to one of those occasionally. The Apple & sultans cake sounds good.

Do you go to the cinema very often? I never used to but go quite regularly now.

hollysteers Tue 08-Nov-22 08:53:17

Not often, but my friend often goes alone in the afternoon, so will do the same as I missed The Railway Children and Emily, both of which I fancied.

Will you be watching the new series of The Crown which starts tomorrow on Netflix?

FannyCornforth Tue 08-Nov-22 09:00:30

No. I absolutely loved the first two series.
Watched a bit of the third. Didn’t like Olivia Colman.
I’m just not interested in it now. I know all the ins and outs of what happened in the 80s and 90s (don’t we all?)
I would be interested to see how Staunton and Pryce are as they are both amazing actors. But, no, I won’t be watching

I saw Jonathan Pryce as Macbeth at Stratford in the 80s.

I also saw Kate O’Mara topless as Cleopatra when I was a student! (Dear me!)

Any notable Shakespearean tales?
