Hello!👋
Welcome to the new thread 😊

Julie Walters is playing the part of me (or Helena Bonham Carter, if I’m having a very good day) and Juliette Greco is playing MrsKen.

Which actress is playing the part of you?

henetha Fri 13-Jan-23 10:09:15

Only the broccoli and stilton soup in which I tried other cheeses as I didn't have any stilton. It was gorgeous.

It's Friday the 13th. Are you superstitious?

AGAA4 Fri 13-Jan-23 10:34:57

No. I can't believe something bad will befall all of us on this date.

Same question please.

biglouis Fri 13-Jan-23 11:58:35

Never been superstitious but my grandmother was. Believed opening an umbrella in the house or bringing in peacock feathers was bad luck!

If you needed an elective operation for something like a knee or hip replacement would you pay privately if you could afford it?

I would like a shot.

SachaMac Fri 13-Jan-23 17:07:49

I tried a pickled walnut for the first time at Christmas and wasn’t impressed, my mum loves them for some reason.

I hear tea pots are having a resurgence, do you use a teapot or make tea in the cup with a tea bag?

MrsKen33 Fri 13-Jan-23 17:48:42

answer two questions.

Yes I would go privately if I needed to
And I do have a teapot but usually make tea with a tea bag in a cup

Cup or mugs for tea, and what for coffee?

TillyTrotter Fri 13-Jan-23 17:51:00

Offloaded all our cups and saucers to a charity shop so have only mugs. Some are porcelain, some ceramic and I prefer porcelain mugs for tea.

Do you ever peek at birthday gifts you are given before the Day?

biglouis Fri 13-Jan-23 21:38:10

No I never got the chance to see what my birthday gifts were beforehand. I think they were bought very much as an afterthought.

Another cold snap is forecast. Are you going to say "what the hell" and bump up the heating?

crazyH Fri 13-Jan-23 22:25:50

‘what the hell’ - I’d rather have a comfortably warm house than £500 more in my bank account.

What about you ?

Mollygo Fri 13-Jan-23 23:23:07

We’ve been more careful, but when I’m cold even wearing an Oodie over my thermals we put the heating on.

henetha Fri 13-Jan-23 23:23:44

Yes, me too, within reason. I'm too old to get cold. It hurts my bones.

Have you ever felt really jealous of someone?

Mollygo Fri 13-Jan-23 23:25:28

Pressed send too soon. We have one set of family round more often to share our hearing.

Have you visited somewhere e.g. a café to stay warm and save on heating?

Mollygo Fri 13-Jan-23 23:26:21

Sorry henetha crossed posts.

Have you ever felt really jealous of someone?

swampy1961 Fri 13-Jan-23 23:45:36

No, can't say I have.

Life is too short to be stressing about other people - got enough on my plate as it is!!

Have you been to hospital recently?

FannyCornforth Sat 14-Jan-23 04:35:48

I had a total hip replacement at The Nuffield in June.
It was my first time in hospital

What do you do when you can’t sleep?

MrsKen33 Sat 14-Jan-23 05:11:42

Read mostly but as you a see peruse GN .If I get up for a drink it disturbs DH and then he snores. A bit of a problem as that keeps me awake also. Hey ho
.Anyway good morning Fanny and anyone else awake.

Have you changed what you eat recently? We eat much less meat now, I would say we are semi vegetarian

FannyCornforth Sat 14-Jan-23 05:20:38

‘ Morning Ken
I’ve been vegetarian since I was 11 (40 years this year!)
But I started eating a bit of fish in my 30s. So I’m pescatarian.
MrC eats very little meat, so he’s probably in the same boat as you.
What made you start eating less meat?

NotAGran55 Sat 14-Jan-23 07:14:07

I’m pescatarian too, having been vegetarian from 18 to 42.
I fancied fish after having my children rather bizarrely.
I stopped eating meat for health reasons. My GM died from bowed cancer and my DM had ulcerative colitis and a colostomy in her forties and I thought there might be a link to meat so stopped eating it.

What are you going to do this afternoon?
I’m going to football ⚽️

ginny Sat 14-Jan-23 07:56:40

This afternoon I am going to do some sketching and painting .

I have had a cough for many many years. All sorts of tests, medications and x-rays. No diagnosis . Totally fed up with coughing a wish I never had to do it again.
If there was one thing you never had to do again what would it be ?

FannyCornforth Sat 14-Jan-23 08:56:35

Oh ginny, you poor thing.thanks
I’d love to never worry again.
It’s been the bane of my life.
On his deathbed, Mark Twain said that he’d wasted much of his life worrying. I know exactly how he felt

What’s been the bane of your life?
(Serious or not so)

MrsKen33 Sat 14-Jan-23 09:53:40

My eyesight. My Grandma and my mother were terribly short sighted and I am the same.

Started to give up meat as DH always had gut problems after eating too much. He is much better now.

Can we go back to the bane of your life please?

henetha Sat 14-Jan-23 11:08:48

My circumstance of birth. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

If you could move to any country in Europe which one would it be? I read recently that Italy has the cheapest cost of living.

FannyCornforth Sat 14-Jan-23 11:54:21

Ah, henetha thanks
A question to you. Have you made any progress with the cat hunting?

I’d move to Iceland (mind you, it’s prohibitively expensive) or a Scandi country. Somewhere cold

Good question. Same again please

AGAA4 Sat 14-Jan-23 13:49:54

Not Europe but I would like to move to Canada if it was possible.

Same again (not lazy but interested)

crazyH Sat 14-Jan-23 15:01:30

Now that all my family are here, I wouldn’t like to move, but if I did, it would be back to the prettiest little ‘hamlet’ ( just 3 main roads with 3 churches and surrounded by beaches) in the world - my childhood home.

A little geography question - can you guess where that is ?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sat 14-Jan-23 15:27:52

I'm grasping at straws, would it be in the UK? North, south, etc?

What about Staithes?
