Hello!👋
Welcome to the new thread 😊

Julie Walters is playing the part of me (or Helena Bonham Carter, if I’m having a very good day) and Juliette Greco is playing MrsKen.

Which actress is playing the part of you?

FannyCornforth Wed 07-Dec-22 07:48:09

NotAGran we could be sisters!

Autumn coloured ✔️
Vegetarian ✔️
Really into perfume ✔️
Lived in cul de sac in the 70’s ✔️

FannyCornforth Wed 07-Dec-22 07:49:11

Sorry - I’d better repeat NotAGrans question

Do you cook anything at Christmas that you’d rather swerve yourself?

biglouis Wed 07-Dec-22 09:13:10

I dont cook anything special at christmas since I dont celebrate it.

Do you get any special drink in for the season?

I always make sure I get a bottle of Baileys. Ive still got vodka from last year (not a big drinker) but I do love the odd Baileys.

henetha Wed 07-Dec-22 11:21:38

I like a drink called Snowballs. I had real trouble last Christmas in tracking them down but finally found a pack of 4 in Morrisons. So I had better go there again soon..
Meanwhile I've got the bottle of Sherry I found at the back of a kitchen cupboard yesterday. (I'm not a big drinker either).
But I must get Vermouth to make martinis.

If you could invite anyone to spend Christmas day with you and your family, who would it be? Someone famous? Or someone homeless?

biglouis Wed 07-Dec-22 23:23:36

If it could be anyone from past or present I would invite my grandmother who died in 1979. There is no one famous I would really like to spend time with.

Same question.

FannyCornforth Thu 08-Dec-22 04:36:58

Henetha I could be wrong, but I think a snowball is advocat (I don’t know if I’ve spelled that right) and lemonade (plus a cherry)🍒

I’d invite my mom. But not let her go.

What’s the temperature where you are? It’s -2 here in Derby according to my Echo

MrsKen33 Thu 08-Dec-22 05:01:16

I think it is well below freezing. We are near the sea so not quite as cold as in land.

Wide awake since three o’clock.
What do you do in that situation?

nanna8 Thu 08-Dec-22 05:22:57

Get up and make a cup of tea and drink it slowly then try to sleep again.

What time do you usually go to bed at night? 11.30 pm-12 midnight for me.

FannyCornforth Thu 08-Dec-22 05:25:03

Take my painkillers.
Drink lots of water.
Make a hot chocolate for DH if he’s awake.
Listen to LBC, Radio 4 or an audiobook on my Echo.
Wash my face and put on various unguents.
Cuddle the dog or cat (cat currently asleep on my lap)
Do puzzles (especially Octordle)
Do online shopping and read my emails
Come on here and talk to you Ken smile

What do you do?

FannyCornforth Thu 08-Dec-22 05:25:41

Hello too nanna8 👋

NotAGran55 Thu 08-Dec-22 06:23:24

Morning early birds 🐦. Been awake since 0330
I used to have a rule of no iPad until 0530 but recently given up on that. I now do wordle, check my bank and business bank, listen to audiobook, watch escape to the country, do a bit of work, drink coffee…

Do you nap in the day?

Literally never have unless I’ll which is very rare.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 08-Dec-22 09:20:29

I rarely go for a nap on purpose unless I'm really under the weather but sometimes fall asleep inadvertently in front of the telly.

One programme I don't expect to fall asleep in front of is Happy Valley which is compelling and rather gritty. I'm catching up on the repeats and then on New Years Day the new series starts.

Are there any programmes which have you equally gripped?

biglouis Thu 08-Dec-22 09:38:01

The Handmaids Tale. Have watched since the beginning.

Are there any ads you find particularly annoying?

There is one on channel 4 player of two parcicularly stupid me discussing the COL and its one EVERY break. I also hate the funeral plan ads because they are all a rip off.

henetha Thu 08-Dec-22 09:44:36

Some of the car ads which only ever feature impossibly beautiful people driving expensive cars in amazing scenery.
All so unrealistic.
(Fanny I think you are right. Advocat....I can't spell it either and something...um... possibly lemonade?)

Do you shop right up until Christmas Eve? Or try to get it all done sooner. I get it done early in Christmas week.. except for the sprouts.

FannyCornforth Thu 08-Dec-22 09:46:37

What’s ‘the COL’?
All the charity ads, especially ones with suffering donkeys and crying brown children.
Yes, the funeral ads, especially the one lisped over by Toyah (so true to her punk roots). And she’s married to a squillionaire - how much money do these people want.
Anything with Carol bloody Vorderman. I detest that woman.

Who on the telly makes you want to throw something at it?
📺 🔨

henetha Thu 08-Dec-22 09:51:36

Snap! Carol Vorderman!

Gordon something.. the one who gets angry and swears a lot?Him.

Same question.

Mollygo Thu 08-Dec-22 11:45:22

Any politician! And Philip Schofield.

Same question please.

MrsKen33 Thu 08-Dec-22 17:03:35

Greg Wallace, Holly and Phil, and any one screechy.

Opposite question. Who do you like to watch on television ?

SachaMac Thu 08-Dec-22 20:01:15

I only watch it occasionally but I like Gethin Jones and Kimberley Walsh on BBC’s Morning Live. I’m not a fan of Holly & Phil.

Have you ever been to see a famous comedian in a live show.

HowVeryDareYou Thu 08-Dec-22 20:42:02

I've seen a few -

Rhod Gilbert was great
Sean Lock was disappointing and nowhere near as funny as when on "8 out of 10 Cats..."
Sarah Millican - good.

I'd really love to see Ricky Gervais and Micky Flanagan.

same question, please

henetha Thu 08-Dec-22 21:38:21

Many years ago I saw Tommy Cooper and Frankie Howard. Both great.

Same question.

nanna8 Fri 09-Dec-22 00:18:31

Billy Connolly in the old days when he was really funny, nearly wet myself. Tommy Cooper many, many years ago. He was funny, too.

Have you ever been to a stage show / concert and really not enjoyed it at all?
We went to one with friends once and they really enjoyed it and laughed but husband and I both thought it was tacky and inappropriate but sat through it for the sake of friendship. Can’t even remember what it was called. Also that Black Swan things- didn’t like that at all.

nanna8 Fri 09-Dec-22 00:19:01

Things= thingo

biglouis Fri 09-Dec-22 09:40:54

Back in the 1960s I went to a lot of rock shows with stars like Del Shannon, Roy Orbison and Gene Pitney. I always enjoyed the stars but some of the supporting acts were pretty poor. Ibe never NOT enjoyed the entire show.

Do you take your children/grandchildren to a pantomime?

SachaMac Fri 09-Dec-22 09:47:37

I went to a 10CC concert in Nottingham with friends who are massive fans. Most of the songs were from an album I’d never really heard They did do a couple of their popular songs at the end which saved the day I suppose.

Is there a comedy series from the past you would like to watch again for old times sake. I used to like The Cuckoo Waltz & Just Good Friends.
