Hello!👋
Welcome to the new thread 😊

Julie Walters is playing the part of me (or Helena Bonham Carter, if I’m having a very good day) and Juliette Greco is playing MrsKen.

Which actress is playing the part of you?

SachaMac Fri 09-Dec-22 09:51:55

Sorry biglouis, think we overlapped there.
Yes I usually take the grandchildren to a panto or Christmas play. Took them to see Treasure Island at Derby Theatre last year was very good.l prefer the plays to the ‘she’s behind you’ type of panto.

I’ll repeat my comedy show question
Is there a comedy series from the past you would like to watch again for old times sake. I used to like The Cuckoo Waltz & Just Good Friends.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Fri 09-Dec-22 14:31:03

I loved The Good Life back in the day.

Do you take a daily newspaper?

HowVeryDareYou Fri 09-Dec-22 14:32:41

I haven't bought a daily paper for about 4 years. I read The Mail online but scroll through the bits I'm not interested in.

Do you use social media at all?

MrsKen33 Fri 09-Dec-22 14:41:19

Only WhatsApp really with friends and family. I am not at all interested in the minutiae of other people’s lives.

It’s lovely here today. Cold but sunny and we did an hour in the garden clearing leaves. Thankless job.
Do you have any such thankless jobs ?

biglouis Sat 10-Dec-22 06:49:48

Agree 100% about the leaves. I just let them lie where they fall til my gardener next comes. Falling leaves are an act of god so who am I to go moving them about?

Do you enjoy walking in this cold weather?

I havnt been outside - even in the garden - for 3 days. Today I have to go to open the gate for my Tesco delivery.

MrsKen33 Sat 10-Dec-22 07:43:21

Take care opening your gatebiglois

Yes we often go for walks as we are semi rural and very near the sea.

Do you visit the seaside in winter?

henetha Sat 10-Dec-22 10:48:47

Yes I do. I'm only half an hour drive from the sea. I love the coast and seaside towns in winter.

Some go swimming in the sea in winter. And some, in Sweden I think, go out and roll around in the snow. Would you do anything extreme like that? Or have you ever?

biglouis Sat 10-Dec-22 14:33:34

Never done anything like that. Too cowardly and fond of my comfort.

Have you had any actual snow yet - as opposed to frost?

It was snowing here earlier but appears to be thawing now. We are about 2 miles from Manchester city center.

henetha Sat 10-Dec-22 14:44:23

None here yet, just off edge of Dartmoor.
Probably some up there I expect.

I'm struggling with Christmas lights today. Any tips for untangling them and getting them to behave!

SachaMac Sat 10-Dec-22 23:16:39

I struggle, I lay them all out in a line on the floor and test first but still get in a mess as I wind them around the tree.

Do you have a theme or colour scheme for your Christmas tree or just add a mix of everything you have collected over the years.

FannyCornforth Sun 11-Dec-22 04:27:18

Always gold and red. Gold and red little baubles, flowers, birds and butterflies. With a snowy owl wearing a crown on the top.

What about you?

NotAGran55 Sun 11-Dec-22 06:52:23

Only gold on our tree and warm- white static lights.

Will you be sad or happy when the decorations come down?
I’ll be happy as I don’t like the Christmas season and can’t wait for it to be over with.

henetha Sun 11-Dec-22 10:40:28

I'm mostly glad when the decorations come down as I'm not mad on Christmas either. Roll on January. December makes me miserable for some reason.

I'm making slow progress with the lights on the tree and on the windows. Is it worth the effort? How are you doing with your decorations and lights? Completed yet?

SachaMac Sun 11-Dec-22 10:50:16

Mine are all up now, I haven’t put any outside lights up just a nice evergreen wreath I made myself on the front door.

There seems to be more outside lights and decorations up in gardens around here this year. (apart from mine) Do you put lights or Christmas decorations up outside?

biglouis Sun 11-Dec-22 12:12:32

I dont put up any decorations. There are many outside around here although it an "ethnic" area.

Have you economised at all this holiday with the CO?

I have not done anything any different.

MrsKen33 Sun 11-Dec-22 15:13:35

Most everything other than the human race.
What is a human ?

MrsKen33 Sun 11-Dec-22 15:25:04

Sorry ladies. Just come in from a lovely birthday lunch.

What is CO biglouis?
When I know I’ll tell you.🤶🏻

biglouis Sun 11-Dec-22 22:44:25

Sorry missed out the "O". Cost of living

MrsKen33 Mon 12-Dec-22 01:55:55

Yes economised a little. No extravagant presents etc.

I have a longing for toast and marmite at the moment. Probably a comfort thing because of the cold .
Do you have a comfort food?

FannyCornforth Mon 12-Dec-22 06:34:57

Anything carby and fatty really.
Mashed potatoes and cheese; crumpets and butter; cheese toasties and Heinz tomato or lentil soup.

What’s your favourite soup?
Do you make your own?

I used to make a mean chestnut mushroom soup, but haven’t for years as I still can’t stand for long. (I’ve currently got agonising plantar fasciitis; there always something isn’t there?)

Beauregard Mon 12-Dec-22 06:58:16

The two I've been making recently are Roast Pumpkin Soup and Butternut Squash and Smoky Bacon Soup. Both delicious.

If you eat Christmas pudding, what do you have on it! I like thick cream flavoured with oranges or brandy.

MrsKen33 Mon 12-Dec-22 06:59:49

MorningFanny
Yes there is always something. I’m having trouble with my eyes at the moment. Possibly too much computer!,,
Yes I do make my own soup. We have masses of it. A ‘end of week’ soup which has anything left in the fridge thrown in it, celery, mushroom and lentil.

Just seen two young girls on tv with those big thick tattooed eyebrows. Would you ever contemplate doing that. ?

Mollygo Mon 12-Dec-22 08:54:41

No, I think they look awful, but it’s fun to see them.

Does your road get gritted?

henetha Mon 12-Dec-22 09:18:59

Not immediately nearby, no. I'm down a sort of long country lane, but if I drive to the top then hopefully that road will be .
I need to go to the post office today.

I did roast pork yesterday and it was a bit tough. Where did I go wrong? I'll chop it up today with veg in the slow cooker.
Any other ideas for lots of left over slightly tough pork?

biglouis Mon 12-Dec-22 23:44:33

Mash it up in the blender with some veggies and make soup.

Do you steer your young grandchildren away from sweeties or indulge them?

My grandmother regarded sweets as "the devils food".
