How do I plant them? Do I just throw them on the ground as suggested by the donor or do i have to germinate indoors?

Any advice gratefully received.

I have always scattered them where they are to grow, but with limited success. The most prolific are the ones that pop up all over my veg plot every year despite my never letting them go to seed! I have not heard of them being sown in a tray but it is worth a try if you have plenty of seed.

i find sprinkling the seeds where you want them to grow, then press the soil down and give them a water if the weather is dry, i have a lovely patch of mixed poppies which are still flowering now.

Assuming they are just the common corn poppy or welsh poppy seeds then they should be fine just scattered where you want them to grow. If you've got enough seeds then why not try a few germinated in a tray....although they might be difficult to plant out as poppies do not like to be moved. We just shake the seed heads anywhere we'd like them to grow although they seem to prefer growing where we don't want them! One good tip is that they do like to germinate on ground that has been disturbed so gently rake the seeds in.
