Wish I could post a photo! It has smooth, long oval leaves, flowers right now with stalks bearing pairs of simple pink flowers coming from leaf axils. Leaves borne in pairs along the stalk. Perennial, has grown a woody trunk and stands about 15 ft high. No scent. Have been told it is a "tree honeysuckle" but the flowers are nothing like honeysuckle flowers. Hope someone can figure it out!

How many petals? What kind of pink? What soil conditions is it growing in? How thick are the stems?

paradise if you add a profile you could put a photo on.

thanks for the suggestions, will have a go at profile idea! Petals 4, lipstick pink, clay soil, new shoots bearing flowers green and whippy but the thing has a trunk and lower branches maybe 6 inches across...

Photos now uploaded, not sure if you can see them?

bagitha Sun 22-Apr-12 16:25:43

I can't. I think you have to click a button saying "visible to gransnetters" or something. If you email HQ, they will help you: [email protected]

I think it could be Lonicera Tartarica.....lonicera is Honeysuckle. I've just looked it up in my plant identifier book and this is the closest match. smile

Yes, Lucid, it does look like Lonicera Tartarica! Google it, paradisemerton, and see what you think.

Hi
I also think it looks like Lonicera Tartarica but does it get red berries later in the year? I believe Lonicera Tartarica has red berries when the flowers die back. Look for the berries and that should help confirm its identity.

Thank you all for your kind help, and YES, lucid, you are quite right. This looks exactly like it. Am off now to read up on it. Thank you SO much. Also that fits with the fact we were told it was a honeysuckle, although it doesn't look much like one to me! Yet it is in the family, and even has that sort of name.

Really grateful! Kind regards from a rather soggy Garden of England...

ps yes it does have little berries, absolutely sure you have pinned it down for me.

Glad to have been of service....not all honeysuckle are climbers. We have 2 different varieties of climbing honeysuckle and a small shrub called Lonicera nitida. smile
