Yellow birch leaves; first autumn tinting.

Noticed them on the tree outside my bedroom window yesterday when I got back from Derbyshire. Similar timing to last year.

I can see Wales
I wish it was whales
For then there'd be sun
And I'd not be glum

But while I've GRANSNET
It's sunny all day,
I'll get to my iPad
And therei I will stay

Talking to friends
From near and afar
From Scotland to clevedon
I don't travel far.

They are all here
So here I will stay
And cheer myself up
On this gloomy daysunshine I wish!

The hill across the loch has turned into a rainbow smile [rainbow] sunshine

That is great Soop to so love where you live.
I do love the colours when Autumn starts to appear but I think the first Spring colours must be favourite - heralding more hopes of perhaps a good warm summer - I hate damp cool days when it should be warm.

Nope, its not autumn until they stop the Bands in the Park on Sunday afternoons.

Lawn is still growing - can't be autumn

So many flowers in the garden - can't be autumn

I'm wearing a T shirt - can't be autumn

Windows are open - can't be autumn

and so on and so on..................

Ripe blackberries and rowanberries. Must be autumn.
Birch leaves falling. Must be autumn.

No heating on yet. Must be.... Oh, wait!

Today I was horrified to see all the winter flowering pansies, violas etc. on sale at the local plant nursery. With the darker mornings too, it really feels autumnal! sad

Pink clouds at sunrise
When I looked up from my reading.

It's good to have a smile at the start of a day.

Summer's passing, turning
Beginning to turn
Into Autumn
Of skies,
Clean clear blue
Holding scruffy puffballs clouds,
Chased with southerly winds
Masking chills to come.

Rose hips, shiny, mist blushed
Some crinkled brown
Hang among inside out blown leaves
Of still bright green wisteria
While brittle tan once green grass
Awaits cooler times
To revive it's thirst

Barn Owl feathers dot the garden
Of spring, summer growth
That's soon to pass, turning
Beginning to turn
Into Autumn,
And a lone yellow rose
Holds on.

We have huuuuge boletes in the garden already. The roe deer seem to like them. Quite an autumn chill in the air this evening too. I've shut the storm doors for the first time in ages. They usually stand open all summer, except for during storms from the NE or E, but whe it starts getting dark by bedtime again and waking up time, and it's chilly too, it's time to shut them at night.

Lovely morning light today just before and just after sunrise. I love the autumn sunrises.

The summer has been so disappointing, I'm hoping for an Indian summer as we had last year. I really love autumn (and it is the first day of September tomorrow), having learned "Ode to Autumn" at junior school. I recall the lovely words as I watch the butterflies among the bright yellow rudbeckia, on the pink sedums and pottering around the fragrant monarda, and as we had a rare day of sunshine today, it was really lovely. And the robins have started singing again, a true sign of the turning of the seasons.
Loved the poem, Butty - beautiful and evocative.
The holidaymakers should be leaving soon, so tomorrow if the sun does come out again we will drive over to the Helford and sit on "our" beach. Cornwall hasn't looked its best this summer!

Butternut Fri 31-Aug-12 20:06:18

I adore the Helford River, dahlia - many happy holidays in that area with the children when they, and we, were young. smile
