Grape vine - any suggestions?

DH has just finished constructing a pergola, and very nice it is too. I've planted a clematis on one side and thought to plant a grape on the other. It's sheltered from the north by a good hedge so, although this in north Norfolk, it should be quite snug. But I don't want anything too rampant and would like quite like edible fruit. It's years since we had a vine and I'm thoroughly confused as to what to get. any help and advise would really be appreciated.

We have decided to take ours out Nfk. The children and grandchildren just laugh at the produce and we are on a drive to rid ourselves of gardening that is more effort than it's worth. We are also taking out the pond!

I have a friend who has so may grapes she's made wine! But she doesn't know what sort it is. The pergola needs something to grow over it, so I thought I'd give it a go.
