Snow on the hills across the loch to the north.
Leaves, all colours, a-falling all around me.

Nice view of a very handsome heron in the field this morning. And lots of carrion crows racketing about at the moment.

Winter ith shtill here too, snow up to the tops of my wellies. Very beautiful but the attraction could wear off!

It's nice to think about things like turfing lawns, sounds like spring.

Depends how much "silly" money is -prepping the ground properly then laying good turf well and finishing it off neatly is time consuming and worth the initial expense. Fences also range from the cheap and flimsy to fences that will last you decades!

I have benn quoted silly money thats why I thought I would ask for advise. Just want a lawn really and two new fences.

If you are having it turfed, don't bother about the weeds, they will be dug up. Have you tried for quotes? Probably best to wait until the ground warms up a bit so that the grass starts growing well - it does make for a very satisfying "instant" garden and then you can add climbers/borders/tubs etc yourself.

Hi I am looking for some advise on gardening as I have to complely do my garden and was wondering what it is going to cost just to lawn in but it does need to be de weeded first Thank you

Mostly thawed here and it's just a grey January day - very boring.

gracesmum Sun 20-Jan-13 13:40:37

This thread title is so tempting - winter cometh, winter hath come, winter ith thtill here!! grin

Grannyeggs Sun 20-Jan-13 13:26:21

It's chucking it down in London, but people insist on walking on it and making it slushy, spoiling my view.grin however we have a nice pile of virgin snow in our tiny back garden , maybe enough for a mini snowman later.

Only snow so far, caps the mountains on Islay and Jura.
River An igloo sounds such fun. grin

My son and his family live in Somerset - must be a lot of snow there as they've built a very authentic-looking igloo in the garden.

I can see from the pics that they're having lots of fun - only it wasn't the grandchildren playing inside but my son grin

Woke up to the sort of snow that is dry and lightly covering the garden. Very pretty. Looking out of my study window, I noticed 'my' Mistle Thrush bouncing around the mistletoe tree - an old, gnarled and stunted apple tree almost covered in the stuff. Must be breakfast time!

No snow in our part of northern England yet. In fact it's sunny. I know what you mean about snow. It does look beautiful but falling over is a pain (literally) now. I don't bounce as well as I did grin

Is it one of the 7 signs of ageing (or just being grown up) not to get excited about snow? It makes everything (even my garden) look lovely, the light is incredible but instead of going "Hurray!" my heart sinks and I worry about roads/ pavements /gritting or lack of it/ trains/slipping sad What a difference from the DGC who just see the snowman or sledging potential! 8 [snowman] emoticon

Just a light dusting here Bags hoping for a little more smile

They'd have to scramble one from Faslane. Somehow, I don't think....

annodomini Sun 13-Jan-13 09:25:16

Helicopter drop?

Bags Sun 13-Jan-13 09:07:53

Just realised the Asda van won't be able to get up the hill unless there's a v quick thaw, and if the driver doesn't have good grip on his boots, he won't be able to walk up carrying stuff. Hmm.... this could get interesting.

jeni Sun 13-Jan-13 09:03:13

Glorious sunshine!

Bags Sun 13-Jan-13 08:46:11

That should be BTW (by the way).

Bags Sun 13-Jan-13 08:45:53

BRW, Ylil, how should I pronounce your username when I read it?

Bags Sun 13-Jan-13 08:44:24

West Scotland. The forecast said it wouldn't get this far west except on high ground. But it has smile

Ylil Sun 13-Jan-13 08:42:04

Where are you Bags?

Bags Sun 13-Jan-13 08:31:45

I've woken up to a white world. Anyone else?

jeni Sat 12-Jan-13 15:08:08

I saw loads last year. At home, just outside Chippenham, outside Amsterdam and elsewhere. I never realised they were so common!
