Snow on the hills across the loch to the north.
Leaves, all colours, a-falling all around me.

Oh well, the mild spell didn't last long – hills white again this morning. Glad we had the winter tyres put on.

Butty Sun 30-Dec-12 10:47:18

Also chillier here this morning, with the added delight of some sunshine

merlotgran Sun 30-Dec-12 11:13:16

I'm so happy to see some sunshine this morning. It's very windy but there's a muddy patch of concrete yard that needs sweeping and I need the excercise.

soop Sun 30-Dec-12 11:27:07

A flash of lightning
a distant rumble
a pelting of hail-stones.
Playful wind chasing the waves
shouting down the chimney
rattling at the door.
Mountainous clouds
scudding across a patchwork sky
sometime grey
sometime blue.
A shaft of watery sunlight
pierces the gloom
and makes me smile.

We are getting heavy showers of sleet and then pale blue breaks in the clouds.

Driving round the loch
in slanting sleet.
Splooshing through the perennial
road floods,
wipers on top speed.
Grip the wheel,
keep steady and straight for that
second when you can hardly see
as the world puts on its invisibility cloak.
The cloak is pulled off and
Phew! you're through
till the next sploosh.
And then you leave an item behind in the shop!
Damn first, and then
Hey ho.
Grocery deliveries
are easier!

Happy "splooshing", Bags

Today the islands are misty, water-colour grey. They rise from a teal-green ribbon of horizon.

Wild up there! It's getting wetter and windier down here at the moment.
Went out earlier for the constitutional. Dry, mild day. One walker. One jogger. One child, a girl, on a motorised scooter. Dad in pursuit on bike. Perfect xmas present for todays child? hmm

Four o'clock in the afternoon and still light!
YAY!
Shepherd has just chuntered up the field on his quad bike
Looking for sheep, I guess.
He goes amazingly fast in that thing.
Just what you need on a boggy (very!)
Bumpy (very!)
Almost impossible to walk on
Hill field.

The sun shone today!

It's a good omen. Happy New Year poets and everyone.

Butty Mon 31-Dec-12 16:15:09

Seems like a reasonable place to put this:

Consider your feelings and temperament as your seasons and weather
Fair will follow foul and the sun will come out eventually.

Just lovely, Butty smile

annodomini Mon 31-Dec-12 16:32:18

The sky here was black at 3pm. Big dark clouds rolled in and unloaded on us just as we got back from lunch. It's still raining - trying to break that record for the wettest ever year for the whole UK.

I always look for sunshine and brighter light on New Year's Day. It's such an optimistic day for me, and I'm never disappointed. I notice my apple trees have buds on them smile

Bags Mon 31-Dec-12 17:24:10

I like that too, butty smile
sunshine

Didn't we have a snowflake emoticon once? I'd have included one of those too.

Yes when. Looking forward to brighter, longer days ......... just like the apple tree buds. That made me smile

Dark hills, shadowed by clouds.
Bright hills, snow-lit.
Light hills, like rounded straw bales,
Side light reflecting off winter grass.
New Year's Day.
At midnight, ships' fog horns sounded,
A few bangs of fireworks,
And then, before I went back to sleep,
A little owl calling:
"Oi! be quiet there you peeps!
How am I supposed to hunt in
That racket?"
Quiet resumed.
I smiled and slept.

Butty Tue 01-Jan-13 16:42:39

smile - Oh I did like that!

cheelu Tue 01-Jan-13 17:10:43

The sun warm on my back this morning as I went for a walk in London.....

celebgran Tue 01-Jan-13 18:36:02

lovely bright day! OH WORKED 11 - 3 and I did 2 regular clients manicures.

casserole in oven.

feeling quite good despite tum ache again, did drink rather toooo much last night!!
disco was sooo noisy, never mind good be with special friends.

only fly in ointment apart from usual heartache is my brother not called round like promises or even rung,
he is notoriously unreliable.

Which poet was it who said, 'A soft day, thank god.'? That just sums today up, mild and tempting me to potter in the garden. The bulbs are coming up smile

JessM Thu 03-Jan-13 16:54:25

It's an Irish expression, so maybe an Irish poet? Very mild indeed it is to be sure. Went out with only one layer on legs so it can't be winter. DH is complaining that having got winter tyres for the first time ever, it is too warm for them. I have some little mini iris bulbs outside the kitchen window that look like they might be out next week. And there are a few catkins out round here.
