First daisy flower of the year! I know it's a long time till spring proper yet, but it's a sign. It's a SIGN, I tell you! sunshine

(Colder temperatures expected tomorrow)

Hey ho.

I am a mole and I live in a hole!

broomsticks Fri 01-Mar-13 15:35:07

Nice poem!
I found a hole in the grass yesterday and filled it with earth. Something has chucked all the earth out again. It must be a home sweet home. Do rats make holes? It looks a bit big for a mouse.

"Dot, dash, silver flash
An aerial morse code of delight."

Wonderful! smile

This early evening
Lapwings rising aloft
Beating colours in flight
Black and white
In sunlight
Turning, lifting on air
Dot, dash, silver flash
An aerial morse code of delight.

Here too - for us it is great news as we love skiing, both downhill and cross-country - and we needed a bit extra. We wouldn't have chosen to live where we do if we didn't like snow smile

broomsticks Sat 23-Feb-13 12:03:16

Snowing heavily here. Sigh.

annodomini Sat 23-Feb-13 10:44:18

The birds around here are lively too. Perhaps they know something we don't.

Bags Sat 23-Feb-13 09:50:39

I'm very conscious of bird song and chatter in the mornings now smile.

It's trying to snow here.

broomsticks Fri 22-Feb-13 11:02:00

Poor frogs, Bags! We had a heron in our pond a few years back and it just stood there swallowing frogs, one after another. I sent the dog down to chase it off. She charged down ready for bird scaring duty, then saw how big it was and fled. grin

kittylester Fri 22-Feb-13 10:37:10

We were going to Lincoln for the weekend but have decided that east winds, snow flurries and temperatures of minus 3 are not conducive to sightseeing, so are staying put in our warm house smile

Bags Fri 22-Feb-13 10:34:54

Hot coffee, mmm! And, soon, some flapjack to have with it smile. Bitter east wind here too. Chilly February.

Butty Fri 22-Feb-13 10:22:47

Absolutely perishing here too, Jess. My walk this morning was in brilliant sunshine but the wind was arctic! Plain miserable. My hot coffee's good though. smile

JessM Fri 22-Feb-13 09:50:01

Absolutely perishing here in the South East. Easterly wind forecast to continue for a while. sad

I hope the mating and spawn laying frogs are alert this morning. There's a heron in our pond.

Back in Oxfordshire, I once saw a carrion crow catch and devour a frog.

It is a beautiful day in Kintyre. As good as it was when I met Bags in the George at Inveraray... [always need to check the spelling...but it is correct]. Shrubs in bud. Heather looking grand. Birds tweeting. Cat and Mr soop snoring as the sunshine floods through the window. smile

broomsticks Wed 20-Feb-13 10:34:43

The sunshine has gone. Lots and lots of grey now. Probably just as well for my back I suppose. It doesn't like gardening. I do though.

Absolutely glorious day. A red admiral rested on some early daffs today!!! Last winter buff tailed bumbles were sipping at the clematis all winter but NONE this year I guess the wet weather has done for them. Hope they recover.

kitty grin Sometimes, when I think my eyesight is getting worse, that cleaning my specs helps! Now there's a handy household tip? But then one would see the smears and dust more clearly...

kittylester Sun 17-Feb-13 18:54:58

Yes it does Ariadne but I must need new specs or something. grin

The worst place, when the sun shines, is the glass cupboard doors in the kitchen - I do wish people would be more careful when they open and close them! blush

Ariadne Sun 17-Feb-13 17:41:26

Oh, but kitty doesn't the dust suddenly appear? And the smears on the windows? Fortunately I am managing to ignore it all!

kittylester Sun 17-Feb-13 17:33:04

It's been so lovely here today that I am loathe to close the curtains. sunshine

soop Sun 17-Feb-13 17:08:59

I agree, broomsticks Butty is a true poetess. flowers

broomsticks Sun 17-Feb-13 17:03:37

Butty your poems are lovely. You should gather them up. It seems such a waste just writing them and then they are gone.
