Whiteflies munched my Lupins!

Oh no! I hope thy return.. not sure about the whitefly lifecycle...if the larvae are not in the soil then I assume it is ok to replant in a similar area.

I could not grow lupins in my old garden they just got eaten along with delphinium. But I have just planted three lupins in my new garden...I might need to keep a vigil

There is a theory with lupins that if you pamper them they will sulk and if you neglect them they will thrive. Mine were late making an appearance this year but you should have seen something by now. I wouldn't worry about replacing the soil if you plant new ones, just mulch with some well rotted compost.

Thanks for the tip*merlot*..I won't bother with the vigil and let them stand on their own stalks!!

Aaah thank you all - think I will just go to the garden centre tomorrow and start again. I can deal with the slug problem ok with sand and gravel and have also been told that whitefly avoid anything yellow - like my lupins in blues and purples but will look for something low growing in yellow to pland under them.
