Could not do it before as we were away .

it is surprising how they LIFT the front of house .

Nice Nonu I love hanging baskets and used to do half a dozen but thats gradually dwindled down to just one now as I loathed losing them if we decided to go away out of the blue.
They do make a lovely show though what do you have in them?

Nonu Wed 03-Jul-13 12:59:50

HI Tanith , Well, I just bought them , at Lidl for the bargain price of £3.99.
They are trailing petunias , I didn"t think they gave off a fragrance till my neighbour remarked on it . I now of course notice it myself.
We just need some blinkin" sun now !
I will post an emoticon and perhaps that will encourage it sunshine

I love doing my baskets Nonu it is a tradition in the family for me to do them for DD and her brothers they certainly make a differance to the front of your home, just remember not to water them in full sunlight as it singes the leaves and evry other night dead head the plants it will keep them fresh looking and they will last longer.I 've got trailers and fushia's and they look fab.flowers

Tell you what GLAM > if you see some-one climbing a ladder and doing a balancing act to dead head , in my neck of the woods , it will be ME .

Give me a wave as you pass !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I make up loads of hanging baskets & hang them in areas of the garden that needs brightening up, such as blossom trees that have finished flowering etc, I just hang them in the branches, I plant a lot of tubs as well & things like daliahs in tubs, the daliahs I pop into bare looking areas in the borders when some things have finsihed flowering flowers

What a nice idea SPINDTHRIFT , I have heard of that before , never actually seen it .

Bet they look fab.

It is useless putting bedding plants in my soil.
I have 20 pots and 2 hanging bascuits.

Are your baskets made of biscuit, Frank? I suppose that would hold the water well.

Spindthrift, if you are still about

A HUGE THANK YOU

I was telling Mr N about your lovely idea , he replied " YOu could have that if you wanted" so did no more than go to garden centre , well Aldi actually only £3.99 a piece , and bought back 4 baskets , which we have just put up , they look really wonderful and lift the garden.

How lucky I am to have such a warm caring man by my side.

Enjoy your day flowers for us both .

When we go away we take the hanging baskets down and stand them in containers of water in a cool, shaded area of the garden. The longest we have been away is 10 days and they survived that, looked a bit jaded but soon perked up. For shorter periods no problems.

Nonu Sun 07-Jul-13 13:34:24

Like it , Flickety , I shall be here now for rest of the Summer , so don"t have to worry about them .

glammanana Sun 07-Jul-13 15:47:30

Nonu remember to give them a wee bit of food sweetie, not too much just well diluted in with their water it does give them a nice boost,I use miracle grow also but dilute it to twice the amount of water it says on the tin/tub.All the mixed flowers I put around the tree which stands out side my garden gate on the pathway have all started to come out and they look quite effective, first time I have done that (brains sherlock)hmm

gracesmum Sun 07-Jul-13 15:50:52

£3.99 at Aldi? I never knew you could get them so cheap.

Nonu Sun 07-Jul-13 16:00:28

Thanks Glam. I have started using Miracle -gro since the grondsman at our health club tole me that is what he uses , and his plants look really fine. {even groundsman}!! How you doin" ? keep all your ducks in a row ? I am --laugh .

Grace , I know , what a steal eh , if you have one near to you get yourself up there as I don"t suppose at that price they will be around for long.

[sunshine and smile] ps they are really healthy looking also .

glammanana Sun 07-Jul-13 16:00:46

Blimey!! it costs me more than that for the DIY stuff I buy.I never noticed the cost when I first read the post.

Nonu Sun 07-Jul-13 16:02:36

I know it is quite amazing , you couldn"t make them up yuourself for that could you??

Spindrift Sun 07-Jul-13 17:59:39

glad to hear I was of help Nonu, my man used to put chains up for me to hang the baskets from, unfortunately, he passed away 20th December 2011, last year I didn't do much but this year I am doing a lot more in the garden, he would love that
