I thought it might be nice to share our bug-zapping ideas and recipes.

I have found a great spray for my greens: chilli and wash-up liquid. I get 70 small chillis, put them in the blender with some water, blend them on high, sieve the liquid and pour into two 1.25lt bottles, topping up with water, and a squirt of washing up liquid. Costs nothing as chillies grow wild around my garden, and it really works.

BUT - blending it and sieving it releases capsein (I think) into the air and sets me off coughing and choking like an old smoker. Clears the sinuses wonderfully, though.

I put the left over mulch, ie the bits that didn't liquify, into a container and put them around the bottom of the plants for extra protection.

Although I live in sub-tropical Queensland I'm still a Yorkshire woman, so I love getting summat for nowt!!

I have always used soap, saving the ends of bars of soap in a jar, topping up with warm water when required. A good shake, then pour the soapy liquid into a watering can and water on to cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli. Re-apply after rain.

Joan you certainly don't get chillies for nowt here!
