At least my daft apricot thinks so. It's bursting into leaf?hmm

Saw my first snowdrops today (first this year) I've always thought that their bulbs spread underground but I don't know. A couple of houses down the road has a front garden almost full of bluebells well up and fighting them for space are masses of violets in full bloom, absolutely beautiful. smile

Wind I think?

thatbags Mon 24-Feb-14 17:23:23

Bluebell shoots poking through! Yay! About twenty crocuses and masses of snowdrops, including single ones dotted about randomly where they have seeded themselves from the established ones. Are snowdrops insect pollinated?

I remember last year so much frogspawn was under ice. So a milder spring is on it's way perhaps.

Another wonderful skein of storks flew over our house today. They rode the current for a while, chattering away, then off they went into their V - and stopped calling.

Had a giggle about whether they were arguing about shall we turn left or right or keep straight on! smile

First lot appeared last week.

I have piles of frogspawn. One daff out and a couple of primroses.

there's been frogspawn in the pond for about 3-4 weeks now. I have just deadheaded my first lot of daffs - very early ones of course and the snowdrops are gone to seed so we are well on the way

Did have thatbags but next door's cat ate it today.

No sign of frogspawn yet here in North Yorkshire.

thatbags Sun 23-Feb-14 18:47:00

Has anyone esle got frogspawn in their pond yet?

rosesarered Sun 23-Feb-14 18:29:16

Daffodils all up in big clumps, crocus [croci?] all out too and also primroses.
Did some pruning today, and it's so mild, didn't need jacket.

Just think the swifts and swallows on on their way back - God speed to them

Spring flowers are busting out all over here on Sir Mon, including celandines. Lambs are two a penny. DH started wearing shorts yesterday (is the university department ready for the sight of his very sturdy legs I wonder...) and he came out walking in them today. (I am still wearing 2 layers on my legs though)
But we have yet another huge gale hammering up the Irish sea tonight.

Large bumble bee buzzing around the (closed) patio doors.

We were woken up early by a thrush singing loudly outside the bedroom window this morning. So lovely to lie there and listen and know there's no need to get up.

Get ready for a big Aaaahhhhhhh! folks!
I've just been to my local farm shop for some meat. As I was coming out of their drive, I saw in the field a lot of snowy white, gambolling lambs!
I'm now going into my garden to see if the mint has survived?

Also, on the way back, in the middle of the town, I had to stop the car while a gloriously coloured cock pheasant took his own sweet time to strut a cross the roadhmm

Galen Mon 10-Feb-14 19:26:57

Wouldn't have any of them round here! This is a decent town. No room for hussies.
Yellow rumpled indeed!

Galen Mon 10-Feb-14 18:10:09

No! They're not ducks! They have webbed feet like you in the boogeyman brae!

thatbags Mon 10-Feb-14 17:55:23

Blackbirds are a kind of thrush. [ducks]

Galen Mon 10-Feb-14 17:16:13

Haven't seen any kind of thrush here for years. Blackbirds by the bushel.

thatbags Mon 10-Feb-14 16:27:26

Song thrush singing this morning. First time i've heard it this year.
