Usually, around now, we have snowdrops in the garden, but nothing as yet, I think it has to be a certain level of coldness first, so it must be too mild ?

Discovered a couple this morning, just about out. We are in Norfolk, about 20 miles from the coast.

I walked about quarter of a mile up the road to a neighbour to post her card , before Christmas her snowdrops were in full flower.
In fact she gave me a nice bunch to take home , I think they must be a very early flowering variety , as mine are not showing a peep thus far.
Hey ho ...

I love snowdrops at Anglesey Abbey - mid February - first sign of spring

Yes! Just appeared in the back garden, 5 or 6 tiny drooping heads. At last!
Such a joy to see them. Makes me feel Spring is not too far away.

Noticed some in next doors garden this morning. I can't get them to grow in mine?

whenim64 Sat 25-Jan-14 16:19:08

Yes, I've got several clumps now. My back garden is very protected from the elements, though, so they've sprung up a little earlier than some others.

Galen Have you tried planting them "in the green"? Garden centres will have them in pots now.

Ours are out.

mrshat Sat 25-Jan-14 16:29:53

Ours are out in the back garden and the mini iris' is also in full bloom!

Nelliemoser Sat 25-Jan-14 16:32:36

With regard getting snowdrops to grow it might depend on the soil, but Jingle is right about needing to plant them "in the green".

That is contrary to what you do with most other spring bulbs.

Well, my snowdrops are not even up yet let alone out! It's still so very mild here, and wet.

Lots in my garden and a local stately home with snowdrop woods is opening them on 1 Fenruary.

margaretm74 Sat 25-Jan-14 16:46:24

Yes, ours have been out for a little while, hidden underneath the natural hedge. It's blowing like mad here this afternoon!

glassortwo Sat 25-Jan-14 16:56:02

I found 1 lone snowdrop yesterday in the front garden.

Frannygranny Sat 25-Jan-14 16:57:31

Yes, lots of shoots and a few flowers. Quite early for Glasgow I think. Lots of daffy shoots too. Maybe Spring is coming. Just wish the rain would stop!

JessM Sat 25-Jan-14 17:24:51

Yes lots, carpets of them, in Penrhyn where I spent an energetic 2 hours clearing away dead ferns and allowing more of them to show off. They are pretty much all the wild type. Unlike Anglesey Abbey where there are more varieties than I ever dreamed of. The winter garden in AA is also lovely. But it is much quieter in Penrhyn! (bit of a scrum sometimes in AA)

We have lots out at the moment and plenty more to come.

broomsticks Sat 25-Jan-14 17:50:49

Yep, we have snowdrops and aconites. Lots more to come yet though.

Iam64 Sat 25-Jan-14 17:57:05

We have snowdrops in bloom now. I'm very pleased that the bulbs I put in last autumn have taken, new clumps of snowdrops under the tree.

Nonu Sat 25-Jan-14 18:09:43

Mine are out , looking really good , I love them they herald the promise of things to come !

Strangely enough I have crocus and daffodils out with tulips growing but no snowdrops.

Iam64 Sat 25-Jan-14 18:53:35

that is odd brenda - our daffy are just poking through. We are in the grim north west though grin
