Of course you can Finlay

Reminds me of my oldest GS when he was that age. He'd been helping me garden on summer and wanted a rose to take home to his mother. Try as I might I couldn't persuade him on any other but one in full bloom. Needless to say by the time he got it home it was a bare stem bar one brave petal that had clung on.

I fear Finlays prized plant may end up the same way Aka,he's away home now clutching his plant and a small watering bottle,his Mums not interested in gardening at all so it's all up to Finlay,we will see what happens.

It's nice when they are little and so interested in the garden, my DGS did when younger but now takes no interest at all.This year he told me that my cherry tomatoes weren't as good as Tescos [he is always honest at least.] We used to plant a sunflower for him every year.

So many children don't understand how things grow so it's great that us grannies can share this with them. It makes for some very interesting conversations. The same GS mentioned above was was pondering why when an animal dies it is gone for ever but when a plant 'dies' it can come back again next year.

When my DS and his beloved "girlfriend" were both two ish they were playing in my back garden and managed to decapitate a large number of my daffodils.
