Suggestions please

A red elder would look lovely- and the flowers are a lovely soft pink- great to make elderflower cordial. or for the birds, and it can be pruned very hard when it gets too big. I moved mine from the UK to the Swiss mountains, and to my delight, it is doing really well. You could then plant white geraniums around for striking contrast.

Camelias like the shade too- but are over so quickly (and need acid soil).

I love Angelica, it isn't brightly coloured, but does give a lovely cream colour as it flowers. It can grow a good height, will work in a pot and doesn't mind shade. I think it's a biannual, but it self seeds, so can take over if allowed to run riot.

Huge hosta's in pots, they have long purple/green blooms - I've got mine on an old table, for some height.

A statue would add interest but I think a little pricey. Plus I was hoping for some colour against the privet.

The back two sides if the triangle are privet hedging, which belong to the council. I don't think a climber would work.
phoenix a platform is something to think about. The area does get sun in the late afternoon.

How about something that climbs? Head in the sun roots in the shade? I have put a rambling rose in a similar position and it rambled off till it had sufficient light where it flowered. Also grown in very large pot. X

Another thought, if you can't find anything the right height, then possibly, as it's at the back, choose something lower and put the pots on some sort of raised thing?................ I'll get me coat.

What's that big lily thing called? Rather striking foliage, grows pretty tall?

It's difficult, as brightly coloured flowers tend to be sun loving ones.Is it really totally shady or dappled shade with some sun?Is there a fence at the back of the shingle and pots?Climbing flowering hydrangeas are good in shade [hydrangea petiolaris.]They need something to climb on [they have suckers and can attach themselves]and are very vigorous though.An ordinary hydrangea in a large pot does well in one of our shady corners, is pink and glows towards evening,lights up the corner.
