French marigolds

What is beheading my plants? Put in 12 marigold plants and all but 2 so far have had their heads taken off, also think they are being attacked by slugs. Don't remember having had this problem before, is it worth trying to salvage some plants or should I just get rid of them all?

Snails eat the heads. Plant more so long as you are willing to surround them with metaldehyde slug pellets. (I admit to resorting to this)

Ordinary pot marigolds don't seem at all tasty to slugs and snails. Perhaps settle for those?

Most of the heads aren't eaten they are just lying by the side of the remaining stem.
