We have a lovely apple tree by our conservatory which grows pale pink-fleshed apples that are delicious. But for the last few years we have not been able to eat a single one. The wasps get there first.
We have two wasp traps in the tree and they are solid with dead wasps every day. It is pretty revolting. The apples that fall are heaving with wasps; and many on the tree that look fine are just a ball of wasps with skin round them. We hardly dare try and pick them.
It seems such a waste, but I must admit that I am tempted to cut the blossoms off next year and not let it fruit. We cannot sit outside in the summer for wasps.
I can find no nest anywhere in the locality - certainly not on our house or on the chapel wall that adjoins our property.
Anyone got a suggestion? - we have tried the fake wasp nest thing and it made no difference - and anyway nextdoor's dog ripped it to shreds!
