I have noticed several plants flowering again this year, including Primroses, Weigelia ,and Aubretia, not to mention the Dandelions!
Have you seen any others?

Not flowering again but my rose bushes are still in full bloom with plenty of buds, my brother commented on the geraniums in full bloom too.

One of my rose bushes has recently started flowering for the second time. Was a lovely surprise actually because it's tucked behind a wall round the back. Funny how little things like that really cheer your day.

The geraniums and fuchsiasin my pots are still thriving but so far we have had no frosts here in Cheshire. My pink climbing rose (Royal Star and Garter) has quite a few new buds. Often there is still the odd rose in flower at Christmas, despite frost, but the others will slump as soon as their toes get cold.

Lots of plants have a second flowering period and, judging from posts in previous years, primulas do it quite often.

Summer in Argyll has been quite cool and wet this year so quite a few of my flowering plants have done less well than usual, especially roses.

I noticed last week I have several Million Bells plants that I did not plant this year have suddenly grown and started to thrive .

I don't think that has happened 'at this time of year' before.

Yes my garden still full of colour and so far some Busy Lizzie's have gone and a few petunias needed pulling out but the begonias , geraniums etc. doing fine. First frost though, BAM all will be different sad

Still good news, it is time to plant fresh winter flowering pansies and cyclamen.

I did ask on a thread if anybody knew anything about Mandevilla. I bought one from Lidl and it has been a beauty, loads of flowers and still as good as the day I bought it. I have it in a pot and tempted to see if it will survive the winter , anybody have a clue?

I have two different Clematis flowering again I've not ever noticed them flower in October before.. maybe they are confused.

shysal Fri 09-Oct-15 11:34:51

POGS, I hadn't heard of a Mandevilla, but they look great! I hope you manage to keep it going.

My lovely red poppy is flowering again. It was quite a surprise to see so many new buds. Plus we have a white rose bush which has small blooms, it has given us more flowers too.

Yes, so much colour still in the garden! One primula only is in flower, some lupins grew and reflowered as did the delphiniums and the poppies. Some others have just gone on and on ( we deadhead regularly which helps) but roses, verbena, fuschias, in full flower, it's lovely.smile

Talking about dead heading, has anybody tried using a 'Dead header'

My daughter bought me one this year. It is about 4" long, 'v'shaped with two sharp blades for nipping. A little like sugar tongs in shape.

Brilliant little gizmo and so simple. Not worth £5 but she bought mine for £1.99 .

Elegran Fri 09-Oct-15 12:37:52

Was that from B&Q? Red handles and a red sleeve? I have one of those and you are right it is brilliant. Small blades so it gets into narrow spaces between flowers. Fits into the palm of your hand and has a little plastic sleeve to keep it in.

POGS Fri 09-Oct-15 12:49:53

That's the thing Elegran, wouldn't do without mine now.

Mine was purchased in a store called B & M and I could spit. I went to buy a couple more and they had put them in the sale 50p obviously none left but will buy more next year if they restock them.

Your description was better than mine, as usual grin

Dead header + gloves. £3.50 or £3.95 without gloves! I have ordered a set.

Lots of my perennials flower twice- but this is due to my Chelsea chopping straight after the first flowering, which almost always leads to a second flowering later in Summer or autumn. With some large clumps, I actually Chelsea chop the part at the back even before flowering, the the front flowers and I cut that, the back clump flowers and I cut that, then the front flowers again so x 3 flowering time. Brilliant.

A couple of nasturtiums suddenly sprouted by our fence last month and have grown like wildfire - some of the stems must be about 10' long! I don't know where they came from...they look lovely though!

Last year I got a double flowering of the heuchera in my mums front garden.

grannyqueenie Mon 12-Oct-15 09:57:47

That deadheader thingy looks great, I'll be ordering some, one for me and a couple for gifts. Nasturtiums, tell me about it! I randomly planted a few seeds in a bed, like yours Ana they have gone berserk but what a great burst of late colour. I've been frantically collecting the seeds hoping to avoid a complete take over next year....you can have too much of a good thing! smile

Found blossom on my pear tree last week. The pear tree opposite is bowed down with fruit about to ripen.
