I've had loads this year and given lots away but have lots left! How do I store them please?

Thanks. {smile}

I'm sure you are going to get lots of suggestions for storing the fruit but its not something I have ever done other than making things and freezing or making jams and preserves.

When I had a Bramley apple tree I used to only store perfect fruits, damaged fruit was peeled cooked and portioned out in bags then frozen and used in pies, crumbles etc. The stored apples I wrapped in newspaper individually and layered with more news paper in cardboard boxes in the garage they would last several months like that.

I've cooked lots too.....apple crumbled out at the moment! I've never made jam.....should have a go. Tips on storage are good. Thank you for your help. :-)

I got given some bramleys and having froze them my freezer is full and haven't got room for much else, Im bored of crumbles and would love some ideas about what to do with them.

I have so many apples this year- mostly with blemishes so won't store . I have made all the usual pies,crumbles and cakes,given away loads ( but everyone else seems to have masses too ) left quite a number on the ground for the birds too .So I am going to try making chutney for the first time grin...

Oh I so wish we had a big old apple tree in our garden. We did plant a 'patio' apple tree a few years ago, and then transferred it to a flower bed, but it is very small and produces about a dozen, small and rather unpleasant tasting apples each year (if we're lucky enough to get them before the insects do!). They're only fit to be added to other fruit in a crumble. Waste of flower bed space sad

You wrap them up separately in newspaper and store them in a cool, dark, frost free place. If you can be bothered. I used to, with our Bramleys. Now I just pick up the best of 'em and spread them out over the top of the coal bunker.

Apple and pear trees are over-rated. But they do make nice shade in the hot weather. And it's somewhere to put the Christmas lights.

Can you make apple/pear juice? If you don't pasteurize it you can still store it in the freezer in plastic bottles.

We have Bramleys and usually slice them into a bowl of water with some lemon juice then drain and freeze.
Last year I stored the best ones for future baking by wrapping them individually in kitchen paper and putting them in the veg drawers of the outside fridge, I have tried the dark place method but the fridge was more successful.
I have sliced them into rings and dried them in a very slow oven. You can buy driers, I think Lakeland do one. This concentrates the flavour - delicious on cereal.
Last year I made apple and chilli apple jelly - lovely with cold meats and cheeses.
This year I made apple butter. Again nice with cheese (there was another thread on that).

I sound very industrious but I'm not!!
