Ducks are back!

A friend of mine had a pair of mallards who decided to nest in her very large high window box.
She was very worried about how the young ducklings would get down to the ground safely. She tried putting up a large sheet so they could slide down. Whatever way they did it they got down safely.

I only have next doors blind hen visiting my garden and a pheasant now and again.
The frogs started mating (or at least having lots of fun!) on 1st March but as yet there is no spawn. It should be a bumper crop judging by the high number of frogs enjoying themselves.

Watching some mallards and a pair of swans waddling around today - it was the warmest day so far and no wind - oh Spring!!! Welcome.

We have a large pond in our garden, excavated for the clay to buid with.
In spring a pair of mallards usually appears there - haven't seen them yet.
Like mandarins, the male is colourful, the female drab.
At one time we kept a few ducks, but the fox got most of them. It was so sad to see a bereaved partner, we stopped keeping them. One widowed male started to court a hen (out of loneliness.)
They do seem to go round in mating pairs.

We have got crows! and they are back too. The 'bovver boys' from last years hatching are still around and throwing stuff around including my plant labels. They are comical to watch but seem to be permanent residents now and we wish they weren't, what can you do though. Would prefer ducks really

I love ducks too mollie. We have two mandarin ducks who come to visit most summers. The male is very handsome. The female very plain by comparison
