Primroses

Just thought I would say that at last my Primroses and Cowslips are flowering they were worth waiting for..

New clumps of snowdrops have appeared without any help from me, some of them very tall and others just tiny. The snowflakes are also flowering now. My hellebores are in great shape and appeared far earlier than usual. They too are spreading all the way down the side of the fence.

You are lucky loopylou I wish mine were I have all traditional/wild Primroses which don't come in colours like the Primulas. They seed all over the place it's such a shame after I went to lots of trouble to split them last year. I just took another look only to find one single plant with lots of blooms it had to be the self seeded one growing between a wall and a concrete path wouldn't you just know it .

Our hellebores have been lovely, just like last year. I had fewer snowdrops though, I don't know why. Unless mice have eaten some of the bulbs.

My primroses have been blooming since Christmas so not sure why others haven't. I've even got them in the lawn where they've self-seeded!

Could it be the lack of sustained cold to stimulate them? Neither my primroses or Hellibores have done well this year.

Primroses will not grow in our garden, so DH planted these in a pot in the conservatory/porch. They are pretty colours, and brighten up the space.

From what I've been reading Primroses like the be in the damp so with all the rain we've had they should be happy bunnies, maybe the old clumps are too crowded now and then new clumps are sulking too

My cowslips have vanished! I know they were there last year, but this year - gone! They never did make up the way primroses do, so I assumed they were in the wrong place - south facing bank shaded by an apple tree.

The old clumps of primroses are doing ok, but the ones I split and replanted are sulking.

Perhaps they don't like the wet?

I've lost one or two other perennials and a small rhododendron I was rather fond of, I think because the ground has been so soggy.

Mine usually flourish well, but this year, like yours tanith have been slow to grow and bloom. I did transplant some, because they became so overgrown, and think this might be the problem, however, today, I noticed that those I planted into a trough have finally decided to come into bud, so perhaps they are all a little late this year.
