Grass cutting

It looks so peaceful.

No, Alima. When I moved in there were the bare steps and the 3 bushes bordering them. The garden has gradually evolved over the 16 years since, and includes a cartwheel-shaped veg and herb patch at the more level top. That piece of land was included in the plot courtesy of the farmer, but I am not allowed to erect a shed or greenhouse up there, hence the eyesore right outside the back door.
I am not creative, and wouldn't have had a clue how to design from scratch.

Bellanonna I sat outside yesterday for the first time this year, to eat my lunch and read a book and was too hot in a Tshirt! My thermometer read 19 degrees in the shade.

What a pretty garden, shysal. hope you can get outside and just sit and enjoy it before too long.

I need to get out and pull dead plants out of pots (but we have been very busy indoors decorating etc)

Grass cut today.But mower given up the ghost. Probably from fright at the length of the grass.

I've had three gardens in my time and my dh was not a gardening enthusiast.

I really didn't like dragging out the mower, especially for the first cut of spring.

I don't have a garden now and to be honest I enjoy gardening programmes so much more now that I don't have to worry about lawn mowing etc.,

When I was a young mum, my children used to call it lawn moaning.

Mine is just about dry enough to cut, but I have a shoulder injury and can't lift the mower off its hooks on the shed wall! I think I might strim it instead. Grass cutting is the job I most dislike in the garden, being on a steep slope, requiring crampons!

Ours has been done today.

Have hardly used my Flymo since I bought it a few years ago [prefer my little lawn mower] but it was the only thing that could attack the grass yesterday. Lawn looks awful but at least it doesn't look like a jungle now,

I've managed to cut the first bit of lawn behind the house!

H started his seasonal gardening job last week, so in addition to giving ours it's 3rd cut of the year he's given two others their first cut.

My front lawn, has become a mass of very strong weeds. Next four doesn't bother with their lawn at all, it is such a mess and all the seeds have got into my lawn. Had someone out and he said the only way us to dig them all out and start again, but unless next door does the same it would be a waste of time. Now I am looking for alternative front garden designs, dont want all hard landscaping.

I have stopped the men coming to sprinkle things on it; the DGD complained there were no daisies any more

Edges trimmed. Borders weeded today by DH . Knackered his knees though. Grass cutting tomorrow.

I have water lying in one part of my garden most of the Winter, at the moment its literally just below the surface on part of the lawn so no chance of mowing I'd get wet in the spray
I looked on an old map of our area and there appeared to be a stream running across the land where our house stands, I assume that maybe water just lies in the footprint where the stream used to be even now although the stream is long gone.

It's when it's four inches above I worry

My husband did our's about a month ago in a short dry spell. It was getting horribly long.

We are now on a very sandy soil which drains easily.
Where we lived before was called Clayhall and it lived up to its name. We used to have water four inches below the surface of the garden in places.

First cut of the year this afternoon. Looking good.

We had it cut last week and the men are coming to sprinkle something on it. It really doesn't need encouraging.

We'll be lucky to get the mower through ours - I've suggested to DH that he may have to strim the top off it first! It's also still pretty wet. We are set to have a dry week, though, so maybe next weekend.
