I've found a space to plant some veg this year I usually only manage beans and tomatoes. So want to plant carrots, beetroot and some dwarf peas.
I know I used to have trouble with carrots as the seed are so small so I thought I would make my own seed strips OMG the price of them.. maybe someone else could make use of the idea.
1) Break off a strip of 3 bits of kitchen roll still joined and fold it so you can cut it in strips of about an inch , lay them out on a flat surface.
2) Put a tablespoon of flour into a cup with a little water and make paste.
3) Dab the paste at inch intervals along the strips.
4) Then scatter a few carrot seeds onto a clean piece of kitchen roll and using a wet toothpick or skewer pick up the seeds one at a time and dab them onto the paste.
5)Then fold the strips lengthwise to cover the paste and seeds and lay out to dry.
You can then just lay the strips in a shallow drill and cover . Your carrots won't come up and in clumps and won't need thinning out. They say its the thinning out that attracts carrot fly...
Thought this might amuse some of you!
