Bloody Immigrants

I am overrun by those awful Spanish. I hate them, would do anything to rid myself of them.

What am I talking about? bloody Spanish* slugs, horrid great things are eating my garden as I watch.

Slug pellets deter but don't kill them, my hedgehog won't eat them as they taste bitter ( how the hell anyone knows that I fear to ask)

I collect scores every morning and kill them either with a bucket of soapy water (as recommended) or a boot. heading out now with rubber gloves on.

* It does appear that they do not actually originate from Spain.

LullyDully Mon 06-Jun-16 22:35:59

Salt.

NanaandGrampy Mon 06-Jun-16 22:14:13

I favour the beer method ....at least they die happy!

Well it ,looks as if Gransnet HQ has some sense.

Wouldn't it be lovely if the complainer had the guts to identify themselves.

When I went out the other morning the pavement was covered with them -but they were black! Lots of them had been trodden on and squashed-uggh.

Indinana grin

Never mind the 'racism' (really someone complained ???) but, as much as I hate slugs in my garden- using salt or cutting them in half is just sick, truly.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Jun-16 20:57:33

That's to get tte slime off your hands.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Jun-16 20:56:48

Vim or Ajax. And a nail brush.

Indinana Mon 06-Jun-16 20:49:22

You're a much needed breath of fresh air Cari smile

Indinana Mon 06-Jun-16 20:48:17

Don't think I'll be trying that any time soon then dramtessa shockgrin

dramatictessa Mon 06-Jun-16 20:27:09

My friend suggested I cut them in half, which is what she does. Just ended up with a pair of scissors covered in so much slime I couldn't clean off! And the inside of slugs is infinitely more revolting than the outside [sicky emoticon needed].

glassortwo Mon 06-Jun-16 20:19:11

I prefer Lager to other methods mentioned wink drown the blighters after intoxicating them!

Anya Mon 06-Jun-16 19:45:06

I agree Tanith that is pushing credulity too far.

Blinko Mon 06-Jun-16 19:44:00

FFS!

Anya Mon 06-Jun-16 19:43:43

At last common sense prevails

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Jun-16 19:36:34

'ooray! Cari to the rescue. grin

tanith Mon 06-Jun-16 19:16:43

Can't believe someone would report but not read a very entertaining thread I hope you stay Pompa.

mumofmadboys Mon 06-Jun-16 19:08:05

Please stay Pompa! The title made me laugh!

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 06-Jun-16 19:04:38

All in hand. We can only think they hadn't spotted it came under gardening - in this case context is everything. An easy thing to miss but it makes all the difference. And on that note let us return to the joy of (horror of?) slugs

Elegran Mon 06-Jun-16 18:56:37

I do hope you replied to whoever reported it then, Cari and told them to save their over-sensitivity for posts which are really offensive.

I'd say that anyone reporting GandTea for this thread is doing so to be nasty and cause trouble, not because they are genuinely hurt or saddened by a reference to an invasive species being an immigrant. After all, that is EXACTLY what it is. It has moved here, to a strange land, from elsewhere.

The other possibility is that it is someone so tight-arsed and up themselves with defending those who are not being attacked that they see insulting racists under every bed. Another word for that is paranoia!

NanaandGrampy Mon 06-Jun-16 18:51:51

Worlds gone mad!!

Can we not say ' immigrant' now?

TriciaF Mon 06-Jun-16 18:48:55

I've just read the slug thread - I'd seen the title and realised it must be ironic.
We get those same horrible orange things too, sometimes they're more brown and (sorry) look like little t..ds. They haven't appeared here yet. Still biding their time, hatching out their babies. I just put slug pellets down, those blue things. They go for the lettuces first.

Charleygirl Mon 06-Jun-16 18:46:58

That is the lowest of the low reporting Pompa for something that does not harm anybody. GNHQ has gone down in my estimation recently- some stuff that should have been removed has not been and something funny like *Pompa's which somebody does not agree with and will not show their head above the parapet, does it sneakily.

There are certain posts I do not like so I do not participate- why could this person just ignore it and allowe the rest of us to enjoy?

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 06-Jun-16 18:40:19

We think this is a great thread

We had the biggest slug I've ever seen the other day (I didn't see its passport so can't say for sure if it was Spanish) - still shuddering
