Bloody Immigrants

I am overrun by those awful Spanish. I hate them, would do anything to rid myself of them.

What am I talking about? bloody Spanish* slugs, horrid great things are eating my garden as I watch.

Slug pellets deter but don't kill them, my hedgehog won't eat them as they taste bitter ( how the hell anyone knows that I fear to ask)

I collect scores every morning and kill them either with a bucket of soapy water (as recommended) or a boot. heading out now with rubber gloves on.

* It does appear that they do not actually originate from Spain.

As Stephen Fry so beautifully puts it....
β€œIt's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so fucking what."

Need a cheerleaders' emoticon. Anyone good at pom-poms?

nanaK54 Mon 06-Jun-16 18:28:52

I also thought what a witty title - how anyone could be offended is beyond me

tiggypiro Mon 06-Jun-16 18:22:15

Without the !! Alima I might have thought you were trying to get rid of me but then my sense of humour is intact thank goodness !

trisher Mon 06-Jun-16 18:20:40

I thought this was a great thread, funny and thought provoking. I must admit I was shocked when I first read the title then started giggling when I realised what it was. GandTea you shouldn't have to ask for it to be deleted there is absolutely no infringement of any rules.

Alima Mon 06-Jun-16 18:18:45

Go, go tiggypiro!!

tiggypiro Mon 06-Jun-16 18:16:16

Oh dear I've just realised I've blamed the Himalayas for sending over knot weed when they were really responsible for balsam. It should have been Japanese. There are other bloody immigrants too like American, Chilean and lots more from Spain (skunk cabbage, giant rhubarb and bluebells). That's five reasons to be banned then is it ?

Alima Mon 06-Jun-16 18:15:07

Are we allowed to be offended by the offence taken on a humorous (and informative thread). If so, I am.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Jun-16 18:13:46

I thought it was a really clever title! Made you think the worst, and then sigh with relief when you actually read the thread. grin

numberplease Mon 06-Jun-16 18:12:53

Another in agreement here, GandTea/Pompa to stay, please!

phoenix Mon 06-Jun-16 18:10:59

I agree with all of the above!

Auntieflo Mon 06-Jun-16 18:08:38

Just back and read the letter to GN from GandTea. How sad. What is the matter with the pathetic souls who take umbrage at what was obviously an amusing thread. I have also posted on GandTea's letter thread. Please don't let him leave us.

Juggernaut Mon 06-Jun-16 18:06:51

If people have no sense of humour, that's their problem, why can't they leave those of us who like a giggle get on with it?
As for reporting this thread to GNHQ, pathetic in the extreme!
In fact, I'll bet they didn't even read beyond the 'Bloody Immigrants' line, jumped straight to the wrong conclusion and don't have enough brain to read further!
So, a message for whoever reported this thread, FFS get a life!!!!!

tiggypiro Mon 06-Jun-16 18:06:08

Will I get reported for saying I hate the immigrant from the Himalayas ? I mean the knot weed of course but maybe some people will only read the first sentence. I await my fate !

Alima Mon 06-Jun-16 18:05:21

Words fail me.

Ana Mon 06-Jun-16 18:04:49

Exactly, merlot...hmm

merlotgran Mon 06-Jun-16 18:00:48

Absolutely ridiculous. angry

The thread police are getting on my nerves. They have no sense of humour and boy doesn't it show. They might think they're anonymous but it doesn't take much to work out who the serial reporters are.

thatbags Mon 06-Jun-16 17:54:34

I looked at this thread because the title intrigued me. What could it mean? I didn't notice it was in the Gardening Forum, not till I started reading the posts. Then I realised and inwardly smiled. For fuck's sake! It's about invasive species, not foreign fellow human beings coming to live in Britain.

Humour like this is a device to make people THINK!!!!!

Indinana Mon 06-Jun-16 17:54:31

Oh for God's sake! What IS the matter with some people? Do they just make a career out of 'being offended'? Sad, pathetic, humourless, soulless morons. And they haven't even the courage to stand up and be counted, but just go and report anonymously. I'm angry beyond words angry

soop Mon 06-Jun-16 17:49:42

Alea Thanks for taking the words right out of my mouth.

Ceesnan Mon 06-Jun-16 17:48:58

There is no way that this thread should be deleted. Someone has had a massive sense of humour failure. GNHQ read through the thread and see for yourselves that this is light hearted.

Alea Mon 06-Jun-16 17:47:35

Adding my voice to that! This is beyond ridiculous. First thatbags gets gagged now a jokey thread about slugs -*offends*???
Own up, which slug member was responsible? Let's hear your complaint angry

soop Mon 06-Jun-16 17:47:03

Me too an' all. angry

annsixty Mon 06-Jun-16 17:42:44

Will the ones who complained please come on this thread and say why they were so offended as to report it. I really would like to hear their reasoning.

Ana Mon 06-Jun-16 17:39:18

Absolutely pathetic! Have some people no better way to spend their time than trawling Gransnet to find something to complain about and report? angry
