Elder nigra

I moved a red elder from our UK garden to here in the Jura mountains of Switzerland, and feared it wouldn't cope with our harsh winters. It's been amazing - the leaves are very dark red, and much more cut than normal elder- and the flowers pink. Just made a big batch of elderflower cordial- which is pink. Just love it.

I have one in my garden and it's been a real picture this year, lots of flowers and now the berries. I have a white flowering ground cover plant around/under it and a bright green conifer beside it and they all make a really pretty grouping beside the pond.

Got a good recipe Maranta?

Flowering now as we are at 950metre altitude- so a bit behind you lot.

No sorry I don't. I remember the cider bottles my mother put it in exploding in the cellar. Brown glass in those days.

Exactly sounds too complicated and dangerous! Still remember my first attempt at making ginger beer and cleaning the mess for days after bottles exploded!
