I just googled pruning Magnolia Strellata Craftycat and one site said to only prune when dormant and the other said prune when in full leaf, very confusing. I'm sure someone who has one will be along with more concrete info..
I have a beautiful Magnolia Strellata which is a real picture for about 3 weeks every spring with the daffodils underneath it on a lawn. However it has become very large now & is blocking the view to the flower bed behind it. I know Magnolias do not like pruning but does anyone know if it is really dangerous to cut them back & if it can be done then at which time of the year? It would really be a case of taking out the lower branches to allow us to see the bed behind it. I don't want to lose it- it was here when we moved here in 1992 so is very well established. I have never cut it back before.
