Late summer gardening

I went inside the Brudenell (just as far as the lobby) and had a look round. Have heard good things about it on here. Thought it looked a bit tired though. Perhaps it's better in the actual rooms. White Lion owned by the same people. Wish all seaside hotels had air con though. (only gripe)

We've stayed there but usually stay at The Brudenell! I wanna go back too!!

My garden isn't too bad at the moment as my busy lizzie pots are going strong and so are my agapanthus.

I'd rather be in Aldeburgh jings! My favourite place. Where did you stay?

I bet we do - get an Indian summer that is. We seem to get them these days.

We could well get a nice long Indian summer. (Which would be nice as it would give my new plants time to be appreciated)

although not really. I love the seasons. I just love summer the best. But Autumn is glorious followed by spring, which for me is usually disappointingly cold. Winter is my least favourite unless it is cold crisp and dry.

Went to the garden centre earlier. Half price sale on. Got six perlagoniums to fill in a few gaps.

Just sat in conservatory looking out and realise that the light is changing. I suppose it's because the sun isn't so high.

I've been in despair (almost) about my garden since we came back from holiday. It was the week of the heatwave and it really suffered. I've dug out some of the thuggish geraniums, and went out and bought some phlox and Penstemonns to put in instead. And a lovely bright pink type of ragged robin. Managed to get them all planted yesterday but the ground was so hard it was back breaking work. Going off on a little three night seaside trip to Aldeburgh between buying the plants and doing the work, didn't help either.

Definitely not the best year. Last year was much better.

Our garden is looking really washed out this year. The hot dry winds are not helping.

I've grown a lot of plants in pots as well.

Gaillardia 'Arizona Sun' only grows to 30cm high and is a lovely bright splash of colour. Looks great alongside blue/purple/mauve.

At the moment I have Pink Japanese anemones which will stand some shade. Dahlias should go on until the frost if you deadhead and feed. Phlox is a late summer flowered.

That's just some in flower at the moment

Later these will be followed by asters like "little Carlow" which will also stand shade. I am hoping to add another one or two next year to make a little Autumn bed of asters as hopefully they will go on to October.

I know what you mean . I fancy some Rudbeckias which seem to keep flowering

Stand containers of flowering bedders in the bare parts of the flower beds. I do that when the large bleeding heart dies back.
