How disgusting, its do easy to grow your own.

That happened a few years ago at our allotment, it was a fellow plot holder who when caught "said they thought that was the idea that the produce was there for anyone to pick! They were stopped staggering out with plastic bags full of produce and their plot was not that productive. Couple of weeks ago some sheds were broken into. Nothing of value is kept in the huts, after all there is no electricity, things like hammers and spades were taken.

It does sound like an inside job. In my fantasy world, I would rig up a tripwire attached to flashing lights and a megaphone recording shouting " step away from the pea pods", but I suppose that only happens in the movies .

If there is anything else to pillage would it be worth hiding out one night to catch them? It doesn't sound like vandals as they would just wreck the place. People can be so sneaky at times. I hope they get caught.

That is horrible, I would be furious. I know where my prize marrow would go if I caught them.

What's wrong with cctv,its cheap enough and it would show them for the scumbags they are, it would really embarras them if everyone knew who it was

It's a big field basically, has two exits but the problem would be no electricity supply.

When we used to have an allotment it was surrounded by houses it was a bit of a rough area, DH had stuff stolen usually produce but also tools etc. One of the "occupants" of one of the houses once came to dh and asked if he could do a bit of digging etc in return for enough money to but packet of ciggs etc. To which DH agreed as he was struggling to dig etc .. the lad said "don't worry Mr X, you won't have any more trouble"!!! and from that day he never did.! I still remember his name.,..

Yes ethel no electricity at allotments. We had a big walk-in poly tunnel stolen last year. Our allotment is the furthest from the gate so they would have had to carry it a long way.

Once found a family sitting the bench we have in the middle of our allotment having a picnic. They weren't even allotment holders and were quite rude when we turfed them out.

Then get some geese, they scare the pants off most people and .ca n be very noisy, a guy near me has geese guarding his repair garage,they are better than dogs

But the geese will eat everything on the allotment, and on all the others. They love greens such as cabbage, cauliflower leaves and lettuce. The thieves would probably bring a blanket to throw over one and have roast goose to go with their home-grown vegetables.

I was talking to a chap outside one of our local allotments a little while ago and he said the allotment holders lost a lot of produce, but not to two legged pilferers, but four. A family of badgers were decimating the place. They particularly loved new potatoes and sweet corn, but seemed to be partial to everything else at various times too! Of course, when they blocked up one run, they simply came in somewhere else. We had an allotment in the early eighties and were never bothered by pilfering, but the lower end of the site backed onto woodland and the plots at that end were frequently broken into. In, out and disappear into the woods! Eventually, they put a metal fence round the whole site with razor wire on the top.

We came back from holiday once to find both huge bramley trees in our front garden totally stripped of every apple- with broken branches all over the lawn. The Postman saw the white van on the drive and 3 guys picking, but thought we had arranged it

Everyone in DH's allotment had their tools stolen a few months back. Then they all turned up a couple of days later on the building site over the wall, covered in a blanket. Around the same time someone was sleeping out in one of the heated greenhouses, which was very sad. Not DH's, as you can barely get in there for rusted junk and his eclectic collection of wooden boxes and miscellaneous plant pots.

I do wish someone would steal what's left of his courgette crop though. It's been a bumper year (sigh)

We have foxes on our allotment, they built new houses at the back of our allotment and the foxes disappeared and rats moved in, Council put poison down, but after houses finished foxes came back. It keeps you grounded having an allotment. You have to go with nature.

Daughter's buggy 5 years old and well used, something fell off, bolt I think. B&Q did not have suitable replacement, Grandad had a rummage in his collection of rusting bits and bobs came up with bolt, buggy repaired. Daughter delighted never going to persuade him to go to the tip now. So sympathise with you.

It is a shame, we have had the same problems where my allotment is some people just wont get on with there own lives, and leave other people alone.
