Moving a lilac

We are moving soon and putting our stuff in storage whilst we stay with our daughter and look for a house. We have potted up our favourite plants and there is room in her garden for them. We have a newish white lilac in our front garden, and I know our buyers are going to dispense with it for more parking space. If we dig it up and put it in a large pot, will it be alright until next spring? Or should we plant it a.s.a.p in DDs garden? It is about 5 yrs old and 5ft.tall. I am fond of it so don't want to lose it. Any advice please ?

I've kept an olive tree in a smallish pot for years. The pot is buried in the ground and the tree seems fine. We plan to take it with us 'one day' when we move, hence the pot. Perhaps you could try the same thing with your lilac?
