What is eating my Actinidia?

Thanks for all your help. We have one at either end of a south East (ish) facing fence. The previous one has been slow to get going - I suspect there is a little too much shade - but it is making for the light. Wed like them to meet in the middle.

The damage is about 3' from the ground. I've looked for caterpillars but can't see any and I can't see snails (they are everywhere else in the blessed garden) so I think I have to just watch it.

We don't have a dog and I think the cat is too lazy. I imagined that the plant would be virtually fool proof.

And, only one of my three dicentras has put in an appearance.

How did they know that we had just put in the village Open Garden Forms after threatening to do so for the last five years or so and never quite being brave enough?

I have one which nothing seems to touch. But I haven't got a cat and have a dog which chases away the cats so I suppose it could be that. They are lovely plants though. They leaf earlier than most things and are now getting their white paint splashes. Later the white turns pink - I like to think of it as sun burn!!

Mine grows against a south facing fence in the ground as a climber. They should be treated as a climber I think. I have a blue clematis growing amongst it and a yellow rose at one end.

Our cats always ignored the Nepeta as well, but DD's cat goes mad for it, we always cut a dozen bits just for him, he rolls on them and they keep him calm( he is an excitable cat) DD calls it cat drugs.

My neighbour has one that reliably bursts into green/pink/white glory each year, I think I will plant one actually.I had always thought of them as hardy, but do you have many slugs?Is it in the ground or a pot?

Do you have a cat, kitty? They are attracted to Actinidia like catmint. Our cat ignores the catmint I planted for her delight and digs up ornamental grasses instead because she likes to hold them in her front paws and roll about in extacy.

I suppose snails might be having a go at it.
