Can you grow an Amaryllis from seed?

I have some seedlings that are now in their third year and producing good sized leaves, but so far no sign of flowers.

Carefully extracted 6 tiny plants from pot this morning & lo & behold- each one has a tiny bulb at the end- about the size of a grain of pudding rice.
I've potted them on into small pots to see what happens next.
Not sure I want to go to trouble of potting on any more but I'll see how these get on & maybe do a few more in a couple of weeks if they thrive.
I suppose I will have to move them into conservatory over winter as greenhouse unheated. It is always full of chillis & tender plants in winter anyway- no room for us!!

Well the seeds have started to sprout. They are actually rather sweet - tiny little Amaryllis leaves. I'll let them grow a bit & pot some on & see what happens. It'll be a miracle if I manage to over winter them though.

As far as I know you can get the seeds to germinate and grow, but the developing bulb has to be quite large before it will flower. You might have to wait a couple of years.

I always 'give it a go'. Last year I bought a few gazania plants and the flowers were beautiful. As the flowers died, there was a sort of bit of fluff left. I gathered these, stored them in a paper bag overwinter and then planted them in the spring.
I got about ten new plants and they have started to flower.
