I love my garden but I hate watering it. As it's a back yard walled courtyard it's a sun trap and the plants are in pots and shallow beds so need watering on a regular basis.
I decided to look at fitting an irrigation system. Oh my the prices they charge. Being a Yorkshire lass with short arms and deep pockets I couldn't let myself pay that sort of money for what is basically a leaky hosepipe.
I advertised on Freegle for old hosepipe and soon had enough pieces for my needs. (In fact, I also got a lovely long hose too complete with reel). Today I laid them, fastened them down with some old tent pegs, cut holes where I wanted the water to come out and connected them using some old connectors that we had 'useful one day' box. I now have a lovely working irrigation system that cost me.......well it was my favourite word......free
. Atm you can see the hoses a bit but once the ground cover plants have spread you'll never know they're there.
