How the heck do you tell which way up to put gladioli corms in?

They had hairy bits growing out of both ends.

Didn't they have little hairy bits growing out of the bottom? Like an onion?

Alright! Perhaps I exagerrated just a little bit. It was a whole paper bag full though. And I had to do 'em twice.

Apparently they have "scars". Who knew? That actually helped a lot. Some foreign bloke on you tube gave the best answer.

All mine came up orange, when I planted different coloured ones they disappeared (or turned orange).
Perhaps I planted them the wrong way up

Looking at muffinthemoo's link, it would appear I have put them in the wrong way up. I will go and get them out and have a look. because tbh I can't remember which way I put the buggers in

You could always plant a few at a time so they don't all flower at once. Sounds like a lorra lorra fun.

I'm not a gardener but trying to put a logical take on this. Would it matter which way they lay in the ground as surely they will naturally grow towards the surface/light ? Just a guess but happy planting !
