Yes a stupid question . I have never used grow bags,

Order compost from my milkman, hold up on delivery.

Granddaughter getting summer bedding plants at weekend and will help me plant them in pots.

Milkman has growbags

May work out as a bit more expensive but it will work fine in pots. If that’s your only option.....do it! Enjoy your gardening!

You might find the stuff in growbags won't have much in the way of nutrients, some contain a lot of peat which has little life in it, they tend to be good for a few weeks but will need a fair bit of feeding then. They can be the left overs/dust from processing of mixing compost.
Compost is usually better richer soil.

Why are they used ?

I have used grobags for years and don't agree that the compost is poor , I get great tomatoes from them

I have heard that's it's the most economical way to buy compost so go for it.

I want to plant Geraniums, Begonias and marigolds?

Desdemona Thu 23-May-19 13:42:02

Growbags are useful if there is a lack of space for planting, and generally produce good results if plants are watered and fed regularly. I use them every year, as I only have a small garden which isn't big enough to grow vegetables any other way.

I want to put the soil from growbags into garden pots ?

midgey Thu 23-May-19 14:45:41

Do it Annie! It will work fine.

Anniebach Thu 23-May-19 15:20:53

I'm growing potatoes in a big pot using grobag soil.
They're doing really well and have been "earthed up" twice already.
I've also used grobags in pots for plants that aren't too greedy. Yours should be fine! Maybe use miracle gro?
Please send pic's in a few weeks!

Anniebach Thu 23-May-19 16:21:37

I use miracle gro, haven’t learn how send pics yet

mcem Thu 23-May-19 17:07:55

That would be another box to tick! Go for it!

I have mailed my milkman ?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 23-May-19 17:17:32

If you’ve got one left you could grow tomatoes.

EllanVannin Thu 23-May-19 17:21:32

I've used gro-bags in the past for tomatoes and they're fine.
