Ornamental grass

I have 3 lovely ornamental grasses that I put in the year before last. I cannot remember what they are called! They are very beautiful and consist of a sort of green bushy base layer with straw-coloured elegant tall fronds coming out from there. They look lovely in the setting sun.

I have picked a few fronds to have on a vase indoors and they look great. I presume they will continue through the winter like this.

What do I then do with this? Do I prune those fronds back in the spring or just leave them to do their own thing and see what happens?

Any advice gratefully received.

Mine goes brown and flops over in the winter. Then new growth comes in the Spring and I trim back the old straw coloured stuff.

I did chop one back once but it never lost that chopped back look. Best left alone I think.

Sounds like Stipa gigantea, Luckygirl It will still look good in the winter and you just cut it back to the busy base in the spring.

Thanks for advice - I will cut it back in the spring. I really love it!
