Callistemon Fri 13-Dec-19 10:03:11

How do you stop tulips drooping over?

kittylester Fri 13-Dec-19 17:08:23

Pierce with a pin at the top of the stem, behind the head, to let the air out!

Callistemon Fri 13-Dec-19 18:36:51

Oh thank you kitty
(Again!)

I find it lovely that everyone has chosen common every day flowers available from our own gardens or meadows. They are all beautiful so why do people feel the need to buy exotic expensive flowers which have been flown from across the world only to add to air pollution? We don't need foreign flowers.

callistemon - I'm a mine of useful useless information.

I hate the ones which are unlikely colours usually found in supermarkets and forecourts. Otherwise all flowers are good.

I saw beautiful long stemmed lillies that had been died deep blue shock
Just why?

GagaJo Fri 13-Dec-19 22:07:42

Arum lilies. LOVE their sculpted shape.

Callistemon Fri 13-Dec-19 22:31:07

We had some growing in a garden years ago, they were lovely Gagajo.
Then my neighbour leaned over the fence and said they were funeral flowers.

shock

I still think they're lovely but haven't grown any since!

I like tulips to go all bendy?
They look like paintings ( still life) but DH likes them to stand
Straight, I haven’t told him the pin trick, needless to say.

SpringyChicken Fri 13-Dec-19 22:58:32

I love oriental lilies and gypsophila together.

GagaJo Fri 13-Dec-19 23:20:54

Callistemon, doesn't bother me at all. I think they're amazing. Almost wax-like. The haute couture of flowers.

Callistemon Fri 13-Dec-19 23:27:57

Yes, I did like ours but didn't grow any after we moved.

Ellianne - I agree that we should support local flower growers! There are so many lovely flowers to be enjoyed in season.

In my daughters area (Victoria BC), you can order from local flower growers. They will deliver weekly bouquets.
There are many farm-stands with flower bouquets as well.

I love to gather whatever is in bloom in the garden to arrange a bouquet. Actually usually just a posy, since I don't have many flowers with longer stems in my garden!

Many years ago I lived in Germany and a delightful little girl named Gabriella that I befriended used to bring me the most colourful hand-picked aquilegia (columbine) from her garden. I worried that she might be taking them without permission, but one day her dad came over with her to reassure me they were a gift from the family. They are such pretty flowers.
