I'm so glad that we are lucky enough to still have Monty and GW on Fridays..and I'm enjoying the new format...its something to look forward to..last nights episode was really lovely. ⚘

I enjoy GW and I don't dislike any of the presenters particularly. It is always interesting to see what people can achieve, especially with small or uninspiring plots. The lady who was on a few weeks ago who may have suffered with thalidomide was very inspirational. I shall never complain about mowing the lawn again.

Millie22 Mon 31-Aug-20 12:08:40

Perhaps I was a bit harsh but it was all repeated stuff and goooooseberry man. The lady with the rose garden was lovely.

I agree that Carol's OTT delivery can be irritating and I tried to find the YouTube video of her first appearance on GW where she was just the opposite and sounded as though she'd just woken up!

It has been blocked due to 'copyright issues.' That's strange because I had no problems accessing it a few years ago when I posted it on here. hmm

I don't mind her cardigans but when she's at Chelsea she wears a suit with a shiny snake's skin patter.

It sets off my trypophobia. shock

toscalily Mon 31-Aug-20 11:28:11

Calendargirl that means the whole lot was repeats! I agree about CK being irritating and why does she always wear cardigans that fall over her shoulders with the sleeves too long? Apart from that I really like the programme (although I must admit it seems otherwise grin) I really hope that if and when things get back to normal we can still have the occasional home video included, its nice to see other peoples gardens in all their variations, in particular the children, good to foster that interest early.

I didn't find the programme itself boring, Millie22, but I did think the gooseberry man was somewhat sad and very irritating. How his wife has put up with not going anywhere because of his gooseberry infatuation is beyond me - not something I would have put up with!

Grandmabatty Sun 30-Aug-20 21:43:09

I'm so glad to see others aren't fans of CK. I find her style too much and she speaks a lot but says little. I thought Monty was off filming and he has a new book out so maybe at places selling that to the public. I like Monty and Adam. I would like more of Arit and Joe.

LadyGracie Sun 30-Aug-20 21:36:43

I really enjoy GW when Adam Frost is presenting he talks as if you’re there with him. I love his beautiful cats too.

Carol really annoys me with her flappy hands.

honeyrose Sun 30-Aug-20 21:24:56

I haven’t actually watched the new GW format, but Carol Klein irritates the life out of me! Overly enthusiastic to say the least! I like enthusiasm, but she goes way over the top. I love to watch the Chelsea Flower Show on tv in May, but feel like switching off when CK comes on.

I think BBC have been great in being able to bring us GW during lockdown and beyond. Well done to all presenters in doing the programme every week. Probably been only one camera person there. Perhaps they had to set up cameras/recording themselves.

Monty did say that Friday's programme was looking at past clips.

Next year will give us the normal GW with allotments etc. However, I have loved the viewers vids and I do hope they continue.

Millie22 Sun 30-Aug-20 20:57:34

Boring programme with a silly gooseberry man and all repeated stuff. Looking forward to seeing Adam next week as Monty's garden is now looking so messy and what heatwave does he mean as its been raining for days.

Calendargirl Sun 30-Aug-20 20:45:06

toscalily the chap with the tropical garden, I’ve seen him before.

Fennel Sun 30-Aug-20 20:22:38

I've just watched the recent programme on iplayer and enjoyed it. Agree about the gooseberry man.
But I'm not a regular viewer so can't compare.
It has motivated me to do something about our front garden - everything needs to be cut back.

Carol Klein was an art teacher before setting up her own plant nursery and becoming a TV gardening presenter so maybe that explains her love of colour.

It's not her love of colour that irritates me; that would be understandable in an art teacher or a gardener. It's her gushing, over the top soliloquies and prose that grate. Sorry but I want hints, tips and information from a gardening programme, not the warblings of an over excited enthusiast.

toscalily Sun 30-Aug-20 18:44:25

I usually look forward to and enjoy Monty and most of Gardeners World but this week apart from the chap with the tropical type garden in London it was all repeats. I was just as annoyed this time of watching as the first time I watched the gooseberry man, how can he justify dealing with those and missing his childrens sports day, definitely does not have his priorities right. I get the impression that Monty's garden is looking less well cared for than in previous years, seem to be lots of shots of overgrown & messy area's. I did wonder if normally he has more helpers/employers and these have not been able to be there due to Covid so it's all getting a bit out of hand?

Calendargirl Sun 30-Aug-20 15:41:22

I thought all the filmed ones were repeats. Gooseberry man has been on before, so has the Clapham chap, Chicken florist definitely.

Monty wasn’t filming the last day or two, he would have needed an umbrella, as it was he looked dressed for a heatwave.

Pleased it’s Adam next week.

My DH didn’t enjoy it, he likes to see Frances in her allotment, ‘proper’ gardening.

???

ginny Sun 30-Aug-20 14:05:04

Love the programme and the films of people’s gardens have been brilliant.
Hmm , Gooseberry man would have me running for the hills!

NotTooOld Sun 30-Aug-20 14:03:05

Is Monty ill? I thought there were too many video repeats in Friday's programme. They must have had loads of home videos sent in so why couldn't they show us some of those? We've already seen the young man with the chickens and the woman with the roses. I liked the man in the Clapham garden and didnt miss Carol Klein.

Parsley3 Sun 30-Aug-20 14:00:43

That man and his dedication to his gooseberries was beyond comprehension. He missed school sports day because his gooseberries needed him more. His children must be thrilled with dad’s trophies.
I loved the inventiveness of the two men who grew everything in pots because their gardens lacked soil.
What a good programme.

I love any gardening programme that Carol Klein isn't in. Her lyrical witterings irritates me beyond measure.

"gorgeous colour" "simply bursts with colour" blah blah blah
Honestly she ought to go and work in a paint shop.

merlotgran Sun 30-Aug-20 13:33:57

I quite like items about growers who specialise in one particular plant being inserted into episodes of GW but a whole programme?

The man with his gooooooseberries nearly had me reaching for the off button. Even his wife said she hated them. hmm

I do hope Monty is OK. We're back at Adam Frost's again next week.

farview Sun 03-May-20 11:46:29

I really like Carol's enthusiasm..and the cherry blossom was beautiful..

Bikerhiker Sat 02-May-20 18:26:39

I loved seeing the young lady with all her healthy looking seedlings. I hope her gardening provides great joy throughout her life.

Mapleleaf Sat 02-May-20 18:23:10

I enjoyed all of the programme, including Carol. Thought those cherry blossoms were gorgeous.
