This weekend should have been our village open gardens - sadly cancelled.
Having been part of this previously we know that it is hard work over the two days but also enormous fun.
We have had the front garden redesigned recently but dh (particularly) has worked very hard to make the back garden look good!
The event also makes a lot of money for our local children's hospice which will, sadly, miss out this year.
I thought it might be nice to have a Gransnet Open Gardens event so here are some of our plants. Watch out, I could go mad!!
A few more.
One or two sunny areas.
. Well done Delila’s doggy
Its pouring here *Wwmk2 so good luck with the planting!
Lovely table mellow!
mellow I think small city gardens can be incredibly imaginative and interesting. Love your ivy swags and table.
Today we might go and get the first of the vegtrug. We have cleared the space ready for it. Already have autumn/winter salad seeds popping up for it.
Definitely planting the mahonia today which I should have done yesterday.
That’s lovely, Mellow.
For anyone wanting inspiration for a small garden, or interesting plants, or who just likes looking at photos of gardens, can I recommend the Frustrated Gardener on Instagram

No personal connection, but I’ve been following his blog for a while.
He has a small garden in Broadstairs & I’ve learned a lot from his posts.
What a lovely thread! Mine's a town centre patio, very hard to photograph. I've hung mirrors to reflect the sky and am training ivy in swags, something I saw in London once. The table, laid out but yet to be mosaic-ed, is of found items on beaches, including rusty bottle tops.
What beautiful gardens.
I don't have a mobile phone so can't take any picks of the bottle-brush. The red flowers look almost florescent against the greenery.
I am really enjoying seeing these lovely gardens. When the rain stops, I will have a go at posting a picture of my begonias.
Whitewave it’s an active thread called ‘well now I’ve got a dilemma’ and has some very cute pics of the baby bird.
Beautiful gardens.
Oh no?. What a pain they are.
We are going to get a quote to barricade our chimney. I can’t stand the stress.
Whitewave have you seen the thread on the baby seagull that came down the chimney??
They seem to be very accident prone.
Thanks Gill ? it certainly makes life easier without much weeding.
Granny23 sounds yummy. We have a herb area, because I use lots in cooking, and grow tomatoes and courgettes in tubs and pots. We have apple trees in the garden and so many blackberries in the season grow in local fields that we go and help ourselves.
granny how lovely! We are aiming towards growing more vegetables. We have decided that the garden will be coming more into focus in future as we can see this wretched virus going on and on and there are things that we can no longer do.
Update on baby seagull. DH was watching him out of the window, he was sitting down, got up stretched stepped back and fell off the roof!
I had to go I to next doors garden (empty house) and rescue him. What a racket he made and I had to use an umbrella to defend myself from two extremely angry parents.
I can’t see he’s going to make it somehow.
Still windy here. I hate the wind. Planted 2 Cashmere cream lupins today. Dead headed some of the roses.
I can't believe they are not all beating a path to your door Granny23!
Gosh, so many lovely gardens! Lemongrove you have achieved what I am aiming for; lots of ground cover, to limit weeding! Love your colours. I am still working on mine, some success, some failures. Pond is looking great though, with lots of water lillies in bloom this year
Granny23 Your garden is obviously your pride and joy!
I would love to see a photo of all that beautiful fruit and veg.
Sorry if this sounds unbearably smug but - Yesterday, when it poured with rain off and on all day, none of my neighbours were able to sit out in their immaculate landscaped gardens. I on the other hand, had a good day, nipping out between showers to lift a shaw of 1st early potatoes, some peas and baby courgettes, an onion and a few herbs. Later, I picked a bowlfull of raspberries, strawberries and black currants. So sat down to Sunday Dinner of home made pork, apple, onion and herb meatloaf, with new potatoes, peas and courgettes, followed by a big bowl of fresh fruit with squirty cream. All absolutely delicious. Shame I had no one to share it with
