So star jelly is the consensus then? Thankyou! I will pass all this on to her and tell her not to let the guinea pigs out until GS has been sent out in rubber gloves to pick it all up and dispose of it (as a punishment for not coming off the X box when he’s asked!?). He’ll probably be sick, but it’s character building!

We had a thread about this a while ago, gd, and I think the consensus then was star jelly. I remember because it is a bit freaky!!!!!

Sorry, picture wasn’t clear.

Star jelly?

OnwardandUpward Sun 14-Mar-21 17:35:03

We've got loads of it in the pond, but I didn't know it "happened" on the grass grin

Unfertilised frog spawn seems to be the answer. ww2.rspb.org.uk/our-work/rspb-news/news/340426-slime-mystery-solved-

Strange! It does look a bit like frogspawn and it's the right season for it too. Could be someone's playing a joke. I'd just bin it, carefully and wash hands.

J52 Sun 14-Mar-21 16:46:46

The only jelly like substance at the moment is frogs spawn. Could it be a non fertilised version? No black spots.

Greyduster Sun 14-Mar-21 16:43:12

It does look a bit like moon jellyfish “flesh”. I think she’ll be consoled by the fact that they are not the only ones that have it!

lemongrove Sun 14-Mar-21 16:22:07

Something picked up by strong winds and deposited there?
Either something natural or of chemical origin perhaps, I would get rid of it asap Greyduster.

Greyduster

No, Ellianne - totally landlocked! Is there a theory relating to water?

I was thinking like jellyfish!

cornergran Sun 14-Mar-21 16:07:25

Not that I remember greyd, but it was a while ago, lost some memory cells since then grin.

Greyduster Sun 14-Mar-21 16:04:59

My goodness! I read BBC Scotland’s jelly article. Some of the theories were hilarious (the souls of dead politicians?); some of them were downright scary, but as Esspee says, nothing conclusive. The only thing you can say is that there appears to be a lot of it about! Did it ever come back, Corner, after Mr C got rid of it?

Ellianne Sun 14-Mar-21 15:20:38

How strange! Out of interest does your daughter live near the coast? Or open water?

Esspee Sun 14-Mar-21 15:14:15

Scotland Outdoors pages on the BBC has an article on this topic headed “the “jelly” mystery”. Loads of contributions but no definitive answer as yet.

cornergran Sun 14-Mar-21 15:10:33

We had some thing like it a couple of houses ago. A scientific neighbour diagnosed it as star jelly. He said it comes in several colours and has many theories about origin. Sorry greyd that’s all I can remember other than Mr C gathered it up and disposed of it!

Greyduster Sun 14-Mar-21 14:56:02

Has anyone any idea what this is? Several clumps of it have sprung up in DD’s lawn. It looks like wallpaper paste, or frog spawn without the tadpoles. Not sure if it is a fungus or what it is. There are lots of “jelly” fungi, but none that look like this. Thinking caps, Grans!
